Its hilarious to see people so excited over an obvious application of a touch-screen device which has been available on other platforms like WM for ages already. This has been done many times already, but I guess everything is new with the iPhone.
How about this app from -- 2003 -- which not only does the touchpad thing, but also an onscreen keyboard, or use handwriting recognition, and does not require you to run VNC on your PC. http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/totalinput.shtml
