Sprint gearing up to offer $60 / month unlimited calling plan?

After yesterday's barrage of unlimited calling plans left us all terribly underwhelmed, it seems as if Sprint is hoping to emerge as the knight in shining armor by undercutting the oh-so-popular $99 price point. According to unspecified "analysts," the carrier is gearing up to "offer flat-rate calling plans at up to a 40-percent discount to its rivals," meaning that yappers could talk 'til their batteries died (and then some) for around $60 a month. Of course, Sprint has yet to confirm nor deny the reports, but we're all for a price war in the cellular space, regardless.

It's about time we start having some pricing competition! It's been over 3 years since there has been any pricing adjustments amongst the national players. Once AT&T Wireless and Nextel were swallowed up, the top three carriers matched each others' price and haven't budged since. It's about time the price comes down.

I will jump back to Sprint in a heartbeat for that rate. I loved my SERO plan but the iPhone pulled me away. The question is what will Data/messaging cost? I may ditch my iPhone after all. In the long run the early termination fee would be worth it.

oh, you mean $24.95 on top of what you are already paying for high speed internet? You sound like a Democrat trying to explain how spending more money actually makes it cheaper (i.e. Increasing food stamps will stimulate the economy). The bottom line just doesnt make sense.

It shows how phone companies don't see voice overages as a profit point anymore.

Overages are going away like late fees for movie rentals. Its better to simplify--for both the consumer and the corporation--and pay a flat monthly rate.

With texting, picture mail, wifi, and 3g ppl are communicating much more efficiently and inexpensively.

I wouldnt go that far...look at what the big four are still charging for pay-per-use texting and video. It's enormous. I think this is more of a last ditch effort for Sprint to regain some market share before they kick the bucket and get swallowed up.

yeah, right. Sprint has Nextel, and Nextel has WAY too many corporate gigs for Spring to "kick the bucket" any time soon. Even with the so called "change" that's coming for Push-to-Talk based services, Nextel's subscriber base isn't gonna budge, bc nothing out there compares to the PTT service iDEN offers.

Sprint needs a huge customer return/shift to them now more then ever. This could be the break they need.

Heavily market the the unlim plan (if the price mentioned is correct) and how bitchin' their coverage and high speed network is.

Sprint's affiliate Ubiquital used to offer the $60 unlimited plan in the California Central Valley. I used to work for Sprint. Their idea of unlimited was great, but only if it was set up correctly. I had to deal with a customer who was on the unlimited plan. But the bonehead rep who set him up left the $5 M2M and $5 NW7PM options on. A good year's worth of charges. He didn't even notice it on his bills until I pointed it out.
Caveat emptor: Sprint's employmee incompetency rate is around 90% (present company excluded, of course). Make sure your plan change is done by the nerdiest guy in the store. Or if you call in, make sure you talk only to the retention team.

Wow...that really sucks. I would think the computer program would be programmed to notice weirdness like that on the account.

No you do not need the retention people. You need to call Sprint Premier Care, we will take care of you. I pride myself with being customer focused, doing all that is appropriate to help the customer get the best for the buck's she or he spends. This kind of care means customer not only will stay but will tell there friends, that we care becouse we do... proof in the doing, If you can tie your account to a corp hierarchy you get premier care of your account even if it is not a business account. and the discount is nice also...I have not heard what the final plans will be but the 119 with all the trimmings is not bad for a power user, and I hope they come up with a good family plan for unl or at least 4000 minutes.

And wait until iPCS screws it up by not including off-network roaming and charging $10 for 100 roaming minutes, making it not "unlimited" after all... I know they will.

After all, Sprint may be bad, but the iPCS affiliate areas are even worse...

If they go ahead on the $60.00 plan its gonna turn the wireless industry in a price war and god only knows how low can they go. sprint lost so many cust last qtr. they need this bad if they wanna get back to contender status. they are cutting jobs all over. this might be a make or break thing for them. either way this is gonna be fun to watch.

Sprint already offers a sub-$60 rate plan. It is called Boost Unlimited. As a Sprint customer, why wouldn't I just switch to this plan and pay much less for more minutes?
