We've had a chance to screw around with Sprint's
just-announced M520 slider from Samsung, and in brief, it's exactly what a $50 phone should be: solid, attractive, and svelte. Before we even turned it on for the first time, we noticed that the phone actually has a very premium appearance on account of a chromed front that looks good without being tacky or overdone (though we can imagine there are some folks out there who wouldn't be caught dead with even the smallest touch of shiny on their handset). It's thin, the interface is attractive and snappy, and the whole package really does feel solid; don't get us wrong, there's plenty of plastic here, but you wouldn't know it from the slide mechanism's slick feel. Check out the whole gallery below.

Played with the phone this morning in a store, was very nice except for the obviously lowres screen 176x220, especially compared to my old katana's screen....

I'm planning on getting one. Funny, the first article on the 520 talks about what a gener-i-phone it is. I've played with it, and want. Decent specs, separate buttons, and it's a slider on Sprint.

I would pick this up in an instant except it doesn't have it's own headphone jack. It is a "multimedia" slider, but you need a special plug in to turn the power hole into a 2.5mm headphone jack. it doesn't even make it into a 3.5mm. Another good phone ruined by sprint

I just bought the phone today :)
It comes with a converter for a headphone jack in the box, so you can stop griping and buy one ;)
i really like the size, sweet sliding action and big screen.
Not a fan, though, of the ugly font. I know it's a stupid thing to dislike, but the phone obviously can display pretty things: the backgrounds are smooth and well-done. but the dang font is blocky and outlined in a 1 pixel-width black line.
I can't find themes for this phone anywhere online, including through the phone's browers. pardon my french, but wtf? anyone know where I can find or make one?

I bought this phone about a week ago and I love it, I have replaced the 64MB MicroSD card that it came with with a 2GB and sound quality of the MP3s is great for not having dual speakers. Ringtones if gotten through the service get expensive but I have found Rumkin.com as well as a few other places to get ringtones for free. Rumkin even has a phone uploader that will allow you to upload screen savers, backgrounds, animations and even video and mp3 directly to your phone for free. This phone has a real nice file manager system that allows you to easily transfer media from your MicroSD card to the phone memory and back again. I really love the way it feels and the slide action is really smooth.
My biggest disappointment with this phone, is the inability to directly link media from the card to ringtones, but today I downloaded some 3gp videos and have them set up as ringtones. So call me, and I'll be able to finish watching my Foamy videos.
Buy the phone, it's a complete media phone, and all features seem pretty fast.

My ringtones were working great UNTIL I downloaded calltones. Now, my ringtones have been disabled, and don't work. Does anyone know how to help me?

To make mp3 files into ringtones you have to convert the files int 3g2 files. You can download a free file converter by doing a simple search through Yahoo, Google, or any other search engine. It makes the mp3 file into a video ringer and then you assign the video ringer to whomever you want to. Only thing is since it's a video ringer it will play the sound, but if you have a photo assign to the person you won't be able to see their pic, only a black screen with their number will show while the song plays.
