FCC coughs up some more docs for Verizon's Samsung U940
Is there any lingering doubt at this point that Samsung's delicious F700 is coming to Verizon as the U940? No? We suspected as much, but here's the final nail in the coffin: the bugger's FCC documentation is now officially off lockdown. Nothing really to write home about in the somewhat sparse draft version of the user's manual, but we were amused at someone's halfhearted attempt to black out the Verizon logo on the phone's external photos -- only to be foiled by its repeated mention in the manual itself.

if you look on pg19 they mention "POWER VISION", a sprint version imminent?
Bryan @ Feb 18th 2008 5:08PM
Page 18 mentions sprint specifically
Jason @ Feb 18th 2008 5:56PM
...Sprint is releasing a similar phone and they were probably just cutting an pasting tidbits from other manuals to compile a draft one for the u940.

It's like my i760, but nicer. Very cool.

I bought and return my i760, what handed are you? Im left handed and every time i answered my phone the bloody keyboard popped open.
Too bad too , that was a badass phone otherwise

Would be nice if it at least came with wifi that way we could at least run Opera mini or something of that sort on it.

No Windows OS.. It's going to be anotehr Verizon "dumb" smart phone.
Basically, it's the voyager in a new shell, without vcast mobile tv. Whether or not it has an html browser is still unknown at the moment. It's expected to be released at the end of Q1 or beginning of Q2.

Phonearena says it is sporting a WAP browser... lame.
Jason @ Feb 18th 2008 10:14PM
The pre-production model has a WAP browser and it is also mentioned in the draft user manual, but I'm pretty sure ;) it'll be getting the same HTML browser as the voyager.

Is there no chance this phone arrives with a Windows OS?

No, its a "dumb" phone.. not a "smart" one. At this point the draft is just that.. a draft. So basically we cannot be fully sure what the device is going to have. WAP- maybe? who knows, but the screen is too big for me to think it'll have that and not the full HTML. Check howardforums or phonearena for more pictures

I hate to say "no" but by all accounts that ive heard, this phone is running a custom interface (Croix?). It will have some pretty uninspired features. The music player is underwhelming and its capabilities are close to that of the LG voyager. The voyager isnt a BAD phone, but it seems like theres a lot of potential for this phone thats gone to waste.
Imagine if this ran WM6.1? This seems like such a waste. I hope im wrong.

Actually no, the F700 has it, the u940 does not. The Croix Interface was pretty much dropped in favor of the Voyager-eque theme. What I've seen of people with pre-production models is that there is indeed a couple of different themes, like most of the newer Verizon offerings. a Croix type theme is one of the ones offered, but it is hardly the same interface that won the iF award.

does anyone know if the U940 will have text and menu readout like the voyager and env? thx
