Sprint packing up, moving HQ to Kansas
Unhappy with the lack of cultural integration between Sprint and Nextel since the companies' fateful merger several years ago, new CEO Dan Hesse -- who conveniently already lives in Kansas, having come from Embarq -- is moving corporate headquarters from Reston, Virginia back to Kansas City suburb Overland Park. While 4,400 peeps currently inhabit the Reston location (which it inherited as Nextel's former HQ), the Overland Park campus already employs a much larger base of 13,000. The chief says that Sprint will maintain a "significant" presence out in its Reston offices, but the big boys and girls in the boardroom are going to find themselves back in the land of Toto, tornadoes, and Garmin in the not-too-distant future.

Chris, Cafeteriadude is referring to the following: .
MAILING ADDRESS
Kansas City Chiefs
One Arrowhead Drive
Kansas City, MO 64129
816.920.9300
Apparently KC residents are pretty sensitive about which side of the river things are on.

Where did the kansas city chiefs come in to play?? He just said "chief" as in boss, ceo, head honcho etc. And Overland Park, KS is a suburb of Kansas City, MO So what is the fuss over? Everything looks factually correct.
foner @ Feb 16th 2008 5:30PM
the arrowhead is the Kansas City Chiefs logo. does that make sense now?
jblack @ Feb 16th 2008 5:59PM
oh ok i missed that...but it still is the same metro area a stones throw, but I guess i could see the sensitivity

Usually they're fine, and this one seems to be out of confusion(?), but lately there have been a couple of really odd ones.
For example: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/02/13/lg-aims-for-android-handsets-by-2009/
Why paste the LG logo on the screen of a prototype that's not even made by LG? There are several ways to illustrate that story.

Always thought that was the main headquarters when I lived there. it's called the world headquarters and it's a huge campus.

Could've used a Jayhawk or something... Overland Park is in the state of Kansas. Chiefs are in Missouri. Not the Topeka Chiefs, Olathe Chiefs, or the Overland Park Chiefs. Again, all I'm saying is get it right. Even if Overland Park, Kansas is uber-close to the Missouri state line...... Get it right.
Sprintguy @ Feb 19th 2008 11:13PM
Methinks Cafeteria dude doth protest too much. KC & suburbs include Overland Park--we don't really distinguish too much. The Chiefs have a LOT of fans on the west side of the state line as well. ;) I've lived on both sides of the state line and it's still all just Kansas City to me.
cafeteriaman @ Feb 20th 2008 1:43PM
Ok, you guys win... Go Missouri Jayhawks! Or how about soccer - Go Overland Park Wizards, or baseball - Shawnee Mission Royals! Sounds good to me... No more protesting from me... :-)
cafeteriaman @ Feb 23rd 2008 10:07AM
The Chiefs are in Missouri, not Kansas.. Get it right please....
Chris Ziegler @ Feb 16th 2008 2:21PM
Overland Park is a suburb of Kansas City. You know, as in Kansas City Chiefs.
