Hands-on with HTC's updated Advantage X7510
by Sean Cooper, posted Feb 16th 2008 at 5:11PM
We peeked at the updated
HTC Advantage X7510 at Mobile World Congress, there aren't wholesale changes here, HTC has chosen to simply revamp the keyboard and tidy up the face. The result is a somewhat tidier looking -- though still rather large -- device, with more memory -- now 16 GB of flash -- that still gets all of its previous jobs done. HTC has chosen to eschew traditional keys for a smooth touch-sensitive keyboard, and while we weren't huge fans of the first, we're afraid this isn't a whole pile better -- sure, it looks lovely, but feedback from the keys is about nil. present 3D acceleration FTW!

Exactly. From now on. Every HTC post there is. I will make a comment on 3D acceleration or reply to one regarding 3D acceleration.
HTC = Hates Their Customers!

Looks like they've announced that they will add 3D drivers.

Longest. Runon. Sentence. Ever.

Could definitely use a semicolon somewhere in there, for sure.

Totally not true. I guess Engadged had only a mockup to play with, or it had a dead battery. The live one I saw had artificial (though pretty convincing) haptics using a speaker and some short of shaker in the keypad.

I keep trying to convince my self this isnt to big... shit but i cant. lol HTC can you shrink it by 25%? lol

Is that a cell phone, because I'd really feel bad for the guy holding a laptop up to his face to talk.
keithwwalker @ Feb 17th 2008 2:11AM
It is a cell phone, but u need a bluetooth headset to talk, or use the included tethered mike/stereo ear piece.
Seems as if HTC is developing this unit down one path (removing the super useful joystick and buttons), and retaining the useless keyboard.
Further, in the demo videos I have seen, the large QVGA resolution is retained.
Lots of Advantage fans have upgraded the screen to it's true VGA resolution.
The Athena's WM6 has a good predictive text system and coupled with Palm-like Graffiti text input, you can leave the keyboard at home; and w/o the KB you can put it in your rear pocket.

Did you check to see what version of Windows Mobile it was running?
CNET suggests it's running a new version of Windows Mobile, and they say it's 7, but this doesn't appear to be the case from the 6/6.1 UI visible in the photos.

WM 7 is supposed to have the all-new UI, running on top of CE 6 -- any idea of when that'll hit the market-- late 2009?
Juice @ Feb 18th 2008 10:46AM
Not WinMo7. And I with they would have thrown in an earpiece so I can talk discretely(not) without a dorktooth headset... This would be perfect for me but I can't stand BT headsets and I don't want to carry a corded headset around either and talking via speakerphone in public is a no go. Too bad... :*(
bittermormon @ Feb 19th 2008 1:41AM
wait, so you are considering hold this thing up to you head to make a call but a BT Headset is too dorky?
Javier Fernandez @ Feb 21st 2008 5:44AM
Juice,
I'm using the HTC X7500 as a phone 24x7 and I hate the BT headset too. What I'm using is an LG Style-i HBM-700.

It's almost the end of March and there are still no news of the release of the HTC Advantage X7510. HTC must have been encountering some sorts of problems/hitches. Ditto with the HTC Shift X9500.
