HTC pushes out new AT&T Tilt ROM
For smartphone owners, firmware updates are like little Festivus presents: they're usually free to you, they're given to you by someone you love, and make your life just a little warmer and fuzzier. Alright, all three of those points are stretches, but come on, it's still just a little exciting, isn't it? AT&T's mighty Tilt has just been gifted with a new ROM that provides -- and we quote -- enhanced Bluetooth performance, DTMF tones on the QWERTY keyboard, improvements in overall performance and stability, and a newer Windows Mobile 6 AKU, this one versioned 0.4.4. Let us know how it goes, people!

f*ck no wait till the 6.1 ROM comes out...I'm pretty sure one of the "fixes" that are in this ROM is the ability for ATT to see if youre tethering (even if you do it just a little...like you no longer need to use tethering excessively for them to tell)

I did the update. however, I don't see the landscape and portrait mode issue is solved yet. When I open the screen, it rotates normally. However, when I close the screen, the movie orientation rotates again but not in portrait mode. It rotates to another landscape mode to the other side. What a bug.... I will try the BT issue later...

I assume no 3D graphics acceleration in the update. Figure HTC now stands for Huge Ton of Crap!

Huge Ton of Crap, Hates Their Consumers, and my favorite which I think sums up the history of this company from the beginning to the present: Hot To Crap

You can always return your device for a Duo, BlackJack, Blackberry or iPhone.
Juice @ Feb 15th 2008 10:13PM
You are correct sir. You can return your device within 30 days for a different phone. I like "Hates Their Consumers".

It appears that they are adding 3D drivers after all- http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5777&Itemid=59

This isn't worth the update unless you have some serious issues. I'll just wait until WM6.1.

Dave, dont you wish you knew what you were talking about. I know you do.

Couldn't care less about a half-assed update until they fix the driver issue.

Cooked 6.1 ROMs are already available for the Tilt. I have been running one since Saturday and so far so good (fingers crossed). You just have to do a bit of research first since most ROMS are made for the Tytn II. After configuration for AT&T (which is automatic) and a quick keyboard fix and you're in business!

I installed this update on Friday and haven't noticed that much of an improvement but it did fix the bluetooth, my 8925 wasn't finding my car's bluetooth adapter before but it discovered it immediately after I installed the update.

I understand everyone here is very anxious to hear good news concerning the video issue.
There is good news and bad news.
The present/coming updates will optimize some setting and fix a few bugs.
The updates will NOT fix the video issue.
As of now there is NO plan on creating drivers for the video by HTC or releasing drivers by Qualcomm.
Key words you want to look out for if such as event was to happen are
"Qualcomm" "7200" "Imageon" "hardware acceleration" "driver" "update" with a specific date.
Anything else is simply "counter information".
And it would not be beyond Qualcomm or HTC to bribe a few writers to publish overly optimistic article on web sites. Again "Counter information", corporation have started hiring "counter intelligence" employees just for this reason. All they do is research the Internet and put out false/mis leading information to confuse the consumers. Bushism tactics.
Return your Tilts/TyTn II and get your money back.
After 30 days it will be too late.

i installed the update. be careful! I followed the HTC instructions to use Sprite Backup before making a backup. Trouble is, Sprite will not reinstall once the update is installed becasue the new OS doesnt work with the old backup (Sprite warns when you try to restore, but by then it is too late). Sprite asks for a file with extension .sbu, which doesnt seem to exist. Note that instruction #6 on the HTC website specifically suggests using Sprite backup to preserve personal information. So don't do what I did. Hopefully HTC fixes their instruciotns soon.
