AT&T's Centro unboxed to reveal green keypad -- wait, what?
Boy Genius just grabbed himself one o' them newfangled white Centros for AT&T for a good, old fashioned unboxing, and guess what? The keypad's green. Yep, we can't believe it either. Body's white, keypad's green. Seriously, we couldn't make this up. Before you run down to the store to pick up this $99 fashion statement, though, don't bother -- they're not on sale quite yet -- it's still looking like the 19th is the date you want to circle on your calendar (or program into your 680, as the case may be).

Am I crazy for thinking it looks good?
boydston02 @ Feb 16th 2008 9:28PM
Well, maybe you are crazy, but that does not mean there is anything wrong with liking it! Personally, I don't think it looks horrible, but very out of place. A strange color decision, IMO.

I like the look of the green. Everything is "going green" these days. albeit this is only green in appearance and has nothing to do with the environment. If green was one of several color options with a white body that would be even better.
PEZ @ Feb 14th 2008 8:11PM
It looks prety good for an item with a 3 year old operating system.
robinsmad @ Feb 14th 2008 8:18PM
Ew. They totally had a good idea with the white, but the green ruins it for me.
Jason @ Feb 15th 2008 2:13PM
Actually, I've been playing with one this morning. They are quite nice to look at in your hand... light, compact, and the buttons have a nice shine to them.
robinsmad @ Feb 15th 2008 5:48PM
The weirdness of the green has nothing to do with the phone being light or compact...
Ryan Valle @ Feb 14th 2008 8:34PM
can i stick my iPhone sim into it for using it as a backup phone?
mikeed8986 @ Feb 14th 2008 9:18PM
i'm 99.8% sure you can use iphone sims with other phones but not vice versa. but don't trust me... ask an at&t rep before layin' 99$ and signing that good 'ol contract.
btw... the green makes it look delicious. =D
iofthestorm @ Feb 14th 2008 8:54PM
Hmm, I'm probably going to wait for Android before I commit to any ridiculous contracts on a smartphone, but one of these might not be a bad standin until some slick Android hardware comes out. Anyone know if I can get one of these for $99 on some sort of pay-as-you-go monthly plan? I don't really use cell phones at all, which is why I want to get a smartphone so I'll actually get some use out of it.
robinsmad @ Feb 14th 2008 9:53PM
They are only $99 with a contract. Retail is $400.
iofthestorm @ Feb 14th 2008 9:56PM
Dang, well then there's no way I'm getting that. I guess I'll just wait for Android...
JayVe @ Feb 15th 2008 9:26AM
Android phones won't be coming out until 2009.
I don't usually pick up 1st generation devices, so I don't mind waiting till early 2010 to choose from what will then be a wide selection of Android-enabled phones.
If Android is a huge success, which I have a feeling it will be, there won't be any shortage of Android-enabled phones from which you can choose.
robinsmad @ Feb 15th 2008 2:05PM
@JayVe:
Why do you think they won't be coming out until 2009? Handsets are still set to start coming out in the second half of 2008.
HTC still stands by that time frame, and T-Mobile is going to offer one in Q4 2008. Samsung and LG won't join the party until early 2009, but HTC is a far bigger partner in the OHA.
josh @ Feb 14th 2008 11:08PM
This needs an AT&T tag on it.. (file under)
JayVe @ Feb 15th 2008 9:24AM
The AT&T Centro makes a perfect match to your Xbox 360!
Cahlito @ Feb 15th 2008 9:36AM
yeah!
they're both crap!!
I kid, I kid.
I like teh HaLoZ
attismydevilgod @ Feb 15th 2008 12:46PM
The white is nice but I'd rather have black...but not Sprint. I'd rather stick with AT&T. So I pose this question: For a person looking for more than a regular phone but something to do light browsing, a lot of texting and photo taking in the 100-200-after-contract price range, which device is better, this Centro or the Blackjack II? And yes, I like the iPhone but I want 3G and MMS capabilities and a lower price so it's automatically off the list.
keithwwalker @ Feb 15th 2008 4:29PM
Unlocked @$400? Too much....
iRobot @ Feb 19th 2008 7:38PM
OMG! What a bunch of drama over a couple of green buttons. So what? It's called design, people. Learn about it and maybe this "green button situation" won't seem like such a shock. It DOES look nice -- I just hate Palm Pilots.
Christ -- must every gadget be black?
youngcalihottie @ Feb 25th 2008 12:46PM
the green is just horrible. even if i was considering this phone that would kill it. so disgusting! why not just light gray?
AlphaTeam @ Feb 25th 2008 4:02PM
Green helps to differentiate the number keys from the rest of the keyboard... and that's about it.
