N96 leaked on Nokia's German site?
At first glance, the pretty real-looking N96 spotted in the wild late last year looked like little more than an N95 updated to match the new Nseries design language debuted by the N81. If specs leaked (and since apparently pulled) on Nokia's German site turn out to be accurate when the phone presumably debuts at Mobile World Congress next week, it'll turn out that the assumption isn't exactly true. While it'll carry over the 3.5mm jack, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, and AGPS, it seems the new king of the Nseries hill will begin life as a quadband GSM / EDGE handset with HSDPA on the 850 and 2100MHz bands, supporting Europe and Australia while forgoing North America. There's a DVB-H tuner in there, too, but here's the best part: the phone's going to sport a nice, thick 16GB chunk of internal Flash -- in addition to a microSD slot! We'll hold off on calling this thing a winner until we see it in person, but other than the lack of HSDPA 1900, there's nary a spec in the list that we find ourselves frowning over. Guess we'll have to wait a few months for an Americanized version again, hmm?

"while forgoing North America"....??
We have 850Mhz 3.5G support in Canada(Fido/Rogers). Tell AT&T to improve their technology.

What are you guys talking about? ATT uses HSPA on the 850 band. Sure also having 1900 would be better but I'm sure just having 850 won't be too bad. Especially since it's the lower frequency of the two.

Canada, sorry for your (3G) luck

Any word on what kind of flash the camera has? If it's LED, I think you can easily add it to the list of specs to frown over. Having owned both an N82 and N95-3, I've had to sell the N95-3 despite the 3G because the flash is just garbage.

Dual LED.
The light can stay on when video recording.

Dang. Just when I was actually considering the N95 8 gig...

If the trend stays then the N96 won't be available for many moons. I'd go N95 8gb. You would be happy (inside).

Battery life.... 10 mins standby. 30 Seconds talk time.

Still no touch screen! No Thanks SE rule!

I wouldn't say SE rules, but no touchscreen is a big letdown. More screen res would be nice too.
My n95-3 is pretty good for 2007, but here's hoping seeing a device in 2008 that not only does it all, but also does it all well, as well as seeing inclusive upgrade policies become the norm.

N95 version 1. However the 8gb & N95-3 both have reasonable battery lifes.

this shit sucks i had a Nokia n95 and just recently purchased the N95 8b its by far the most amazing phone i have ever owned and my lil brother has the iphone doesn't compare at all. I am very disappointed if this truly is the N96 i have been waiting about a year now to see what Nokia will come out with after their best phone ever and if this is it then they need to go back to the drawing board. I don't really mind not having the touch screen but a nicer design would be much better. I would like a bigger screen tho the 8GB screen is close to perfect. I want optical zoom on my camera bc when u zoom with the N95 u start to notice that it is indeed a cellphone. I like how much memory this has but i thought that by now they would have WiMax internet. I don't like this phone at all and will keep my 8Gb until something better comes out this just doesn't do it for me especially with all the anticipation i've had waiting for the next super powered and feature packed N-Series.
