Motorola's star studded partnership continues: E8s for this year's Oscars
Like last year, Moto will be working the red carpet hard later this month, slipping exclusive, electronic bundles of joy into Oscar nominees' gift bags. This time around it's the ROKR E8, a phone that isn't yet available to the public -- but what better group to hand 'em out to ahead of release than the rich and famous? Naturally, these aren't just any old E8s, either; they'll be packaged in iguana skin boxes (fake, we're happy to report) and will come bundled with Motorola's also-recently announced S9-HD Bluetooth headset. Note to stars: we don't care how boring the acceptance speeches are, don't go disrespectin' your peers by pulling out the gear and listening to Fergie before the show's over, alright?

Dam, Another reason to be an actor.

How can a company that's losing money hand-over-fist, mostly due to their inability to make a halfway-decent phone justify such pointless expenditure?
Instead of giving away free phones, they'd do better investing in producing better products in the first place.

...uh I don't know - maybe free advertising...???

It's not free nor is there any guaranteed coverage for the masses.
They're giving away free phone to celebrities in the hope that the celebrity likes it, makes a point of mentioning that they like it, that those comments are covered in the media and that people actually care what Halle Berry or whoever actually thinks about mobile phones.
It's just a waste of money for limited-to-no return.
Like I said already, they should try making decent phones instead, it'd be more likely to get them customers than this shallow attempt at what amounts to bribery.

Because they know that it only takes one famous person to make or break their phone. How much does it cost to give those phones away? How much will they make, if even one celeb mentions that he/she loves the phone? Worthwhile? Definitely.

It takes a lot more than one celebrity to make a phone a success.
And it doesn't matter how many times Johnny Depp or Ellen Page mentions their Motorola phone, that isn't going to persuade most people to go out and buy one.

Yeh, but what happens when the celebrity says, "This handset sucks." Which I'm sure they problably do say and that's one good reason why hardly anyone uses Motorola handsets anymore.
