3G + N95 + JoikuSpot + WiFi + iPhone = 3G iPhone (the hard way)
In an unlikeliest of unions since Julia and Lyle, we bring you some hot iPhone on N95 symbiotic action. Using the free JoikuSpot application released this morning, you can now turn any S60 smartphone into a WiFi hotspot. Yes, just like WMWifiRouter does for WinMo devices. Sure, the solution doesn't make much sense from locations with tethered Internet and you can't encrypt the http and https (only) traffic. But if you've ever been in a WiFi dead spot and needed to share access (think PSP gaming), this type of solution is pretty unbeatable. Assuming you have an unlimited data plan that is. I don't know why people keep saying that WMWifiRouter and JoikuSpot are not viable for daily use. I've used WMWifiRouter for a month as my exclusive iPhone connection to the web... works absolutely fine and I don't have to do anything to hop on the web... just keep my regular Windows Mobile phone in my pocket.
(On a sidenote though, I think you meant to say "locations with Wi-Fi hotspots", instead of "locations with tethered Internet"... Engadget may have gotten over the FUD that this process isn't tenable to use on a daily basis).
I get 3G speeds, and, best of all possibly, I don't have to burn $20 a month for AT&T EDGE service.

I might be a little dense but this seems either incredible expensive or a pain in the ass.
So the n95 in this case is using data and converting it to wifi which the iphone then is using in places that don't normally have wifi. right?
So one needs to be backing some serious phones around to pull this off...

The S60 phone is using cellular packet data (2.5G EDGE/GPRS or 3G UMTS/HSPA) to relay the connection to Wi-Fi.
This gives you the ability to use iPhone with 3G, or even better, an iPod touch without paying for wireless service (or unlocking it, for that matter).
