Motorola CABO bringing RAZR 2 style to iDEN?

Wow, never thought we'd see the day that an iDEN handset came along that lacked that distinct iDENness. Motorola will definitely set that marketplace on fire if this beautifully RAZR 2-esque thing actually proves to be real, check out the frickin external screen on this thing! Featuring a 3 megapixel camera, external touch screen -- we're not positive if this only refers to the controls pictured above -- Bluetooth, support for up to a 6 GB SD card, and have we mentioned how glorious the whole thing looks? Look for this to land Q4 this year, that is, if it ever gets out of Photoshop the design room. Color us pretty unsure until we hear more.

What the hell? I thought the FCC was starting to shut-down iDEN networks? When is that to take place? Nice looking phone though!

I dont know where you get your information but iden is not in jepordy of being shut down by the FCC. That sounds like the crap that some poor Sprint employee tells people in order to push them into a Sprint Phone. Iden still has a large following. Not to mention the deal that Nextel and Sprint made with the government was that they would keep up the iden towers for 10 years. Qchat is the next thing to come up for Sprint Nextel. The only thing I can see being done is Sprint launch Qchat and migrating as many customers as possible then selling iden off.

There are iDEN networks outside of the US so I assume this is where this will end up.

um im an iden person and i was starting to fade but ill stay just 4 this but they need to make it support al sdhc so the new 12gb cards could work

From what I have read Sprint has only committed to operate Iden through 2010.

iDEN on Nextel is going to be up and running until AT LEAST 2010 (for PUBLIC USE) however, it MAY still be used by government entities past that time, whist QChat, or another provider all together is looked into. Who knows. As for Nextel and iDEN in other countries, they are flourishing, and thriving (save Telus MIKE perhaps). This phone though, I think its a nice designer phone, and could be labled RAZR III, but its not likely going to happen anytime soon.
Sprint is pushing people to the more spectrum efficient CDMA, thats true, but they are not discouraging people from getting Nextel. However, they are releasing more POWERVISION phones that do EVDO Data, CDMA Voice and iDEN DirectConnect, so its hard to actually be precise when people say now a days they have Nextel. Nextel is really know known solely for Direct Connect Walkie Talkie (as in people think that feature IS NEXTEL, not realizing that NEXTEL is a company)

if nextel released this phone, theyd have a lotof construction workers with teenagers buying one, and therefore having a family plan. i'd upgrade to one just to say i have nextel, and people laugh at me then i whip out that baby. oh yeah! people already go oh, nextel huh? when i tell them i have nextel, even though i love it, but this phone would be great, even though it'd be about $500. at least i could use getting it instead of an ipod touch for an excuse to upgrademy phone again

btw, all the moto iden phones with cobrand on the back have been released on either so-linc or nextel, or will be released soon on one or both.
