The Palm Treo 500, now SIM free
We're not confident that many folks were waiting with bated breath for this to go down, but sure enough, that rumored unlocked Treo 500 we'd told you about is now a reality. Features mirror Vodafone's original -- 256MB of storage, 2 megapixel camera, UMTS, Windows Mobile 6 Standard -- the only difference is that the Vodafone logo is now stone-cold gone from the phone's face, replaced with a more generic Treo logo. Grab it now for £269 (about $528) -- but beware if you're stateside, there's no 850MHz support for GSM and the 3G data resides only on the 2100MHz band.

That price gets you a much better ETEN X800.

Damn.. my luck wouldn't have it that they would release a CDMA version of this on Sprint in the next week... Dang.

although it is a purely personal opinion, but this device looks really ugly...

Hmm.... this shows a standard WM today screen rather than the Treo 500v's carousel. Is this a mockup, or is it a genuine change for the unlocked version?

God I would give my left nut to have a CDMA version of this running Windows Mobile on Sprint.
The Centro is great but the Palm OS is garbage.

I've now had it confirmed that the 500 has the same wierd interface as the 500v - i.e. these PR shots are mockups - there's no standard Windows Mobile home screen!

I actually like the look of the Treo, but I still love my Dash more. ;-)
