If you hate
ridiculously out of focus shots of unreleased handsets as much as we do (it's actually more of a love / hate relationship, but you know what we mean), this here is a welcome sight for sore eyes. About all we can say is this: Verizon's XV6900 Touch from HTC features EV-DO, Windows Mobile 6, and a 2 megapixel camera like its
Sprint and
Alltel cousins, it includes GPS, and yep, we're now absolutely certain it's real. There's still no word on whether it's actually thinner than Sprint's version, but it looks pretty chubby from the diagrams in our gallery, so we have our doubts. See the biggie-sized visuals over in the gallery!

Verzion's choice in phones just never, NEVER ceases to amaze me..... They finally get a half-decent (and I mean HALF-decent) pda phone... then they make it fucking WHITE.
Dominic @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:38AM
agreed. Looked through the pictures and there isn't really anything different from the other Touch's...they just made the customizable parts red, like alltel/Bell made it blue, and Sprint, yellow (the best color choice to match the external case in my opinion). So far I don't see how it's slightly smaller than the Sprint one..it might be..but I'm just not seeing it by overlooking the pictures. Haha, and I have a feeling Verizon's going to make this very over-priced and take out a lot of accessories..my Touch from Sprint came with an overwhelming amount of accessories..usb headphones, microsd card, a case, screen protector, about three different power adapter-type port things, and extra stylus..etc. The usual Verizon-branding, and as usual, no wifi (judging from the pics here only..but all the CDMA versions so-far have skimmed the wifi part out). Hopefully Verizon tacks some insane data plan and price on this so I don't see everyone having it, before I have to throw it away...I absolutely hate the fact of having the same phone as everyone else...and since I'm in a Verizon-populated area...yech. Overall, it's still a horrible color choice :D
Jon @ Apr 8th 2008 12:32AM
here's the list of what comes in the box...
AC Adapter
Getting Started CD
Mini USB Charging Data Cable
One Standard Lithium Ion Battery
Quick Reference Guide
RF Brochure
Read This First Poster
Simple Pouch
Stylus (2)
USB Splitter
User Manual CD ROM
VZAccess Manager CD
having seen what comes in the Sprint box, I'm somewhat dissapointed.
Also, the phone is in no way slimmer. Hardware wise, the only difference between the 6900 and the touch, is the white case. both are the made by HTC, and are codenamed the Vogue.
Jason @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:30AM
And let's see how much they crippled so we know how long we have to wait until someone hacks it BACK to it's original functionality.
Dominic @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:39AM
haha...everyone's probably just going to put a Sprint ROM on there ans be happy..after being on Verizon for roughly 4-/12 years, I was surprised when my Touch has the "Internet sharing" feature..can't wait to see what Verizon does with that :D
Champeen @ Mar 5th 2008 4:35PM
dude, get a life. I'm sure the Nokia candy bar phone that you have now does just fine for you Loser.
Randy @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:51AM
White? Why not Bile Green ala LG's VX8500? Please! Will be the very proud owner of the Sprint (and reasonably black) Touch in exactly 10 days. Can't wait!
Mickey Jones @ Jan 22nd 2008 8:46PM
Hopefully Sprint will still be in business by then. :p
Randy @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:36PM
Well, yes, that is a concern of mine. LOL
Ari @ Jan 22nd 2008 10:19AM
I'll buy a white one. Not everything needs to be black or chrome. I think the more important issue is the phone here, a big plus to Verizon's portfolio. Let's hope they get a move on this thing already.
fyreblazer @ Jan 22nd 2008 10:34AM
I'll be really surprised if VZW allows the Touch to keep it's SAT GPS and not force their customers to use VZ Nav.
Tony C @ Jan 22nd 2008 10:52AM
Sprint's Touch is 0.6" thick and Alltel's is 0.5" -- I'm guessing Verizon gets the same Touch as Alltel.
Mike @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:11AM
I would love it if I could trade my blue/gray Bell touch for one of those sexy white ones, I think it looks great.
What I want to know is, above the calendar on the today screen of that pic, what are those icons? Are those standard with Winmo6 or is that an add on?
Who? @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:22PM
Sexy? The white just emphasizes that it's an odd rotund shape. I'm not knocking the phone itself (I like HTC, and I'm the very very very happy owner of an AT&T Tilt, which I guarantee will be significantly less expensive than what VZW prices this at), but the color just accentuates its shape, as opposed to a darker color where the frame would just blend in to its surroundings.
Hivez @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:15AM
This is supposed to launch in March
Tim @ Jan 25th 2008 9:48PM
my sources say its out in Feb.
DoctorWu @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:22AM
I like the white, its very "Star Warsy" (is that a word?)
Bill @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:56PM
That's exactly why I like it! I tried to get the Motorola A1200 in white for the same reason.
elnino2783 @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:34AM
Where does the battery go? Not another irreplaceable battery!1!
Bittermormon @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:27PM
Bend over and I'll show ya.
Actually see on the back picture how the cover is removed. Also see how there's no apple logo...thats how you know you can replace the battery.
TimmyToo @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:39AM
I think it looks OK in white. This is coming from a new XV6800 owner which is blue. Now that I've had the XV6800 the blue doesn't bother me.
I think the HTC products on Cingular (8125/8525) look the best.
xumdeo @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:41AM
Am actually surprised that people would complain the Touch being white? White phones are hot throughout Asia... especially Japan and Korea...
mike @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:44AM
I am not 100% how this is all going to work itself out down the pike, but my question, is this thing potential Android candidate?
with HTC being part of the open handset alliance and all...and verizon too, right?
so are any of these devices (like this one) going to play nice with google later on? or is this all going to require more new hardware too?
there is clearly something I am not understanding here, I just don't know what.
Christopher Dean @ Mar 19th 2008 4:20PM
i think the white looks great. But I really doubt this device is going to be android "friendly" thats still a long way out. Also if you do have a phone with android on it, and its on verizon, it most likely will be after verizon opens their network and you can add a non-Verizon branded phone to their network. Verizon has a good deal going with Microsoft right now to be able to extremely cripple the firmware. Android doesn't want to do that. Also as a happy owner of the XV6800, I love my blue phone. I think they all look great. I personally am a fan of black (its my favorite color) but the white is indeed sexy! Very sleek. the only thing keeping me from getting this phone is lack of Wifi and qwerty keyboard. Verizon or not I feel like the touch (and other PDAs with no keyboard) are a knock off of the Iphone.I personally would never buy a PDA without a qwerty keyboard. Other than that I have unlimited data through verizon on my xv6800 and I love it! I have service everywhere I go (including traveling along the West coast from the top of Oregon to the bottom of California.) Also internet sharing is easy to enable in verizon cell phones. just find the Cab file on Google and reinstall it. It works like a charm on my xv6800. this phone rocks (especially 128mb RAM, Jealous!) Except no keyboard and Wifi make it a piece. I'm sorry HTC I love you guys a lot. But whats the point of taking out such amazing features to make a Iphone knock off? Love the white though :)
Juice @ Jan 22nd 2008 11:57AM
I have no problem with it being white. It's the non rubberization that would ruin it for me. Grip insurance!
Chris @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:10PM
Why don't they make a touch screen Pocket PC with Vcast and Get It Now. I mean the only upgrades are the camera and the fact that the XV6800 has no extended antenna. Now they make the XV6900 white and a better camera. Ha Ha. I am not paying extra money for that upgrade. Why can't they add the othe features that are on all the other Verizon phones such as the Vcast and Get It Now, I mean they already have Internet options... so why not go the extra inch and add the Vcast Get It Now feature.
SomeGuy @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:34PM
Chris...do you think they should include VCast and Get It Now? I didn't quite know if you were saying they should include VCast and Get It Now from your post. What do you think? Should it have VCast and Get It Now?
dr. b @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:53PM
i, for one, can say that i am very happy that vzw hasnt put GIN or VCAST on their smartphones and ppcs. i dont use any of that stuff and people who buy these types of phones are not usually the people that use vcast. most are tech saavy enough to figure out that sort of content on their phones manually (music/movies and use internet for news/slingbox/etc). it is like dell putting a bunch of programs i never use on a pc. thats what ruined the Q9 and made it the Q9m. not that they had to try very hard to ruin that phone... but you get my idea.
and i know the Q9c exists, but that phone still blows. its a Q8 in a new wrapper..
trooth @ Jan 22nd 2008 3:35PM
I got a Q9M, all you have to do is press a button to get it back to a normal interface, the music player is actually quite better than the standard windows media player, but there are 3rd party applications that blow them both out of the water. Qs are limited by their processor and memory, if you know how to use the task manager (which all windows mobile users should know how to do), you can run the phone for months without even doing 1 soft restart. Most people that buy these phones have no idea what they are doing with them. Verizon doesn't limit the winmo and palm smartphones at all, but they have left the GPS out of them from the manufacturer (if it was there and limited you could get a fix), you can still buy a bt puck and use gps to your hearts content without a monthly fee.
But meh, I dont like touchscreens and that is why I opted for a Winmo standard phone over the I760 which in my opinion beats the touch and the mogul/xv6800 hands down for the current winmo professional offerings. I am happy with the Q9M, but admittadly I know how to operate one.
dr. b @ Jan 22nd 2008 9:41PM
i am with you. the only thing that has kept this phone in my pocket is the user base and knowledge they have. meaning that the users have made my Q8 a great phone and kept it from being ejected out of my apartment window. i hope the same attention is paid to this phone as it is absolutely going to be my next phone in all of its white bad-assed-ness!
Christopher Dean @ Mar 19th 2008 4:20PM
who wants VCAST? Its a WM6 PDA!!!!! You can download all the music, videos, games, and apps of the internet. Most of them free!! Get a clue! VCAST = Verizon raping your wallet for media you already have access too.
Daniel @ Jan 22nd 2008 12:52PM
VZ Navigator is very decent, IMO.
Terrence Meekins @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:08PM
So it should be available in December of 2009 right?
illiniwatcher @ Jan 22nd 2008 1:10PM
A white phone?? With the way that mobile phone bodies rapidly degenerate with use, a white phone will look horrid the most quickly.
It'll be like holding a piece of sh** up to your ear.
Nick @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:57AM
ah yes they say white shows the dirt the most right? lol
Eli Perkins @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:06PM
are you all serious? its a phone. and from what i hear, a great phone at that. who cares about color. especially for verizon customers, this phone would most likely be a very large upgrade over whatever piece they have now.
VZWguy @ Jan 22nd 2008 2:15PM
Well I have sene yet another thread of psots of major disinformaiton and supidity
1. how can verizon cripple an already crippled and messed up phone? none of the US carriers opted for the true HTC touch interface that is MUCh better than all the windows loaded crap that ALL carriers chose. please do enlighten us all as to hwo they would "cripple" a smartphone since they have not done that to any yet.
2. GIN and Vcast? what are you retarded? the smartphone audience for verizon is not the GIN and Vcast market by any stretch of the imagination. not to mention that I am VERY happy that verizon NEVER put those on the smartphones
3. yes you will have ot pay for the GPs feature...OMFG a company making money. as if sprint doesn't have a GPS service they charge for or some crap. if that company was smart(and they aren't) they would charge for GPS as well...but that is why verizon is making announcements in the BILLIONS and sprint is making announcements of layoffs and closings.
so much diinformation it is crazy, so many people who troll these posts are just blind mice looking for a nut. quit looking dumbasses, they are on your chin.
Jeff @ Jan 22nd 2008 3:31PM
Mice look for nuts?
Nick @ Jan 23rd 2008 12:58AM
I think the name VZW guy combined with mice looking for nuts makes me want to ignore this post
Champeen @ Mar 5th 2008 4:47PM
amen brother! Preach on preach on!!!!! I totally agree with you on your comments. YOu got all these retards on here that are obviously wireless industry experts with a WEALTH of information.
Who? @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:24PM
Um, this isn't an upgrade from the XV6800. It's not the same line at all. Note, for one, that there's no keyboard.
Who? @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:25PM
That was for Chris's comment above.
Who? @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:25PM
No, it's available in March! March 2009!
Who? @ Jan 22nd 2008 4:27PM
That was for the December 09 comment. Nice that engadget won't let me respond to any posts except for my own.
greatheart2 @ Jan 28th 2008 7:39PM
White is SISSY color picked by Women or Homoexuals
SSGPat @ Feb 10th 2008 8:32AM
Yes, it was made for you.
Jake Speed @ Jan 28th 2008 11:23PM
Why come out with an old phone "Touch" ? The new Touch Dual would make more sense! I buy my phones through the internet, why wait for the carrier to catch up to technology?
fwaits @ Jan 29th 2008 8:11PM
I personally like this form factor better than the Dual as it's wider and lends itself better to using the touchscreen aspects. Not that the Dual is a bad or worse device, just my preference.
t-pain @ Jan 29th 2008 10:52PM
do you have verizon? where can you buy good smartphones that will work on their network?
mrlarrygreen @ Jan 29th 2008 9:01AM
this is AMAZING
