Well, seems Steve wasn't fibbing when he mentioned we'd see the
iPhone and iPod touch update today, as it does seem to have landed. Hit the link below to get at the package if the auto updater just isn't doing it for you -- and judging from our luck so far, there are some issues. Note that you're going to need iTunes 7.6 to roll this update out.

I tried purchasing the update and it will not show up. In order to get the directions you have to hit purchase, so if you close it you buy it 2x if you wanna see it again. I can not believe this isn't working....help.

Hold down your shift key (on a PC, not sure on a Mac) while selecting "Check for Update" in iTunes and locate where you put the "iPod1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw" file, select it and it will run the firmware update.

I updated to iTunes 7.6 and installed this without a hiccup.

to update with this (if you arent jailbroken) you hold shift (same with mac, i dont remember their name for shift tho), and click Update, itll bring up a file explorer, find your file and boom
if your jailbroken... you may want to wait for an update from them before you update your itouch/iphone, i didnt even update itunes they might get picky... who knows

I had trouble with the iPod download but this link worked great. My only problem now is that I can't get the apps. I bought and downloaded them and have the file on my computer, but it isn't showing up on the iPod. I followed iTunes' instructions: I synched my iPod and then disconnected it from the computer. No new apps appeared, and when I reconnect my iPod, a screen appears (where usually my iPod information would be) that tells me about the new apps and takes me to the iTunes store to buy it.
Since I have the file I tried updating it the same way I updated the software--holding down shift while pressing update. It crashed my iPod and I had to restore it.
Any suggestions?
