If you saw the
1.1.3 leaked firmware then this isn't a surprise. The new iPhone firmware features Google maps with location, up to 9 total home screens, Webclips, the ability to SMS multiple recipients, and more. That more being lyrics, subtitles, languages, chapters, in your iPod media. To customize a screen you just touch and hold the icon for a couple of seconds and it begins to "shake." Right, just like we saw in the video. Flicking your finger across the screen moves to the next screen. iPod touch users, it's all yours for $20. No, we're not kidding.

If you're having problems updating to 1.1.3, you'll have to do the following:
Update iTunes to the latest version.
Reboot
Reconnect iPhone and follow prompts.
You need iTunes 7.5 or later to install the iphone update, otherwise you'll get the 1603 or 1604 error message.

So when will it be available?
Jbird88 @ Jan 15th 2008 2:00PM
So, is this firmware update downloadable now?
Brandenburg @ Jan 15th 2008 2:07PM
It's downloading to my phone right now.
Matt @ Jan 15th 2008 2:04PM
It should be, Jobs said it is.

i just tried updating my iphone. a pop up said, "this iphone cannot be updated, unknown error" or something to that effect. i then unplugged it, and it told me i had to restore my iphone. i tried that, and it said "this iphone cannot be restored," or something to that effect. what do i do?! someone please help, i hope its not bricked, the only modification i made to it was adding a ringtone using jailbreak way back when ifuntastic made that possible, around july of last year. help!! thank you..

T-bizzle @ Jan 15th 2008 3:04PM
Any successful 1.1.3 iPhones out there?
Mike Morris @ Jan 15th 2008 3:21PM
Success! 1.1.3 updated w/o issue, but phone wouldnt reconnect to iTunes to reactivate. A quick power cycle of the iPhone and it detected in iTunes, activated, and was good to go.
Triangulation in Google Maps pegged me within 1/3 of a city block in the SOMA area (one block from Moscone West).
So far, I've added a couple shortcuts to NextBus, Google, and Engadget to my home screen.
Engadget: Please provide a better bookmark icon like Google does! I have not been able to get a decent looking icon for my Engadget bookmark other than the image of Dead Gadgie (http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/01/dead-gadgie.jpg).
Mz.Cher @ Jan 15th 2008 3:25PM
grrrr!! not working for me!!

Does Steve Jobs live in a vacuum? Where are the simple "delete prior email, mark prior read, and copy paste" that everyone needs/wants?
I'm suprised they are rioting in the streets.
Ian Armstrong @ Jan 15th 2008 5:02PM
Wait... hang on. So my touch costs $20 to upgrade? For a .xx sized bump in the version? You mean... none of my iTunes revenues count enough for me to warrent a free upgrade?
Maybe Fast Company was right - Apple *is* acting like (shudder) Microsoft.
KDawg295 @ Jan 15th 2008 7:46PM
does the ringtone hack still work on this upgrade?
Hojoon Kim @ Jan 16th 2008 1:28PM
custom ringtones workaround still works
JUAN @ Jan 16th 2008 7:50PM
yeah im slow how does custom ringtones work
LemonHead @ Jan 16th 2008 11:36AM
Gonna wait for the jailbreak myself... Google Map/SMS is really the only thing they've really updated. And oh yeah, movie rentals from itunes. Still no match compared to the other 3rd party apps.

Hi,
Is there a way of UPDATING (not restoring) from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 without using iTunes? Now iTunes only allows for updates to 1.1.3
Thank you very much
urherenow @ Jan 26th 2008 4:07PM
hold shift when you click the update button and you can tell itunes which update file to use. You must live under a rock to not know this.
