HTC S730 gets previewed
The Vox and Libra have been largely overlooked in the US market (though Verizon's finally looking into fixing that issue), which is a crying shame considering the cool side-sliding QWERTY WinMo Standard form factor that remains largely unique to HTC. The S730 succeeds the Vox, adding most notably 3G and a supposedly better keyboard, and Tracy and Matt's Blog have given the bugger a thorough once-over. It seems that the phone is a little fatter than the already-fat Vox, a potential problem for those hoping to discretely pack it in a pants pocket; battery life was a little weak, too, with normal usage resulting in a nearly drained device at the end of the day. On the positive side, though... well, where the heck else are you going to find this form factor running 3G and Windows Mobile 6 Standard?

Urm, isn't the Pantech Duo the same form factor, 3G and WM6 Standard?

Yes, yes it is. Note my verbiage: "...remains largely unique to HTC."

My pedantry was aimed at... "On the positive side, though... well, where the heck else are you going to find this form factor running 3G and Windows Mobile 6 Standard?", the answer is of course the Pantech Duo.
Thanks for indulging!

Does this thing actually do 3G in the US on ATT or Sprint? or is it only 3G over seas?

Uh... why would I want it to run WinMo? Some of us have standards, you know.
The real question is: where's a linux phone in this form factor? Still waiting for Nokia to deliver an N810 based device with GSM/HSPA.
Or even an iPhone II with a slide-out QWERTY. Sure, I'd be stuck on AT&T, but it'd be better than running Windows :-}

Depending on what you are looking for, your answer may come from Samsung.
Check out the U700 (GSM / Vodaphone Import) if you prefer AT&T or T-Mobile. Or if you can wait a couple months, check out the SCH-U940 on Verizon. Virtually the same phone save for the camera and we're still waiting to see of Verizon allows Samsung to stick with the Croix OS.

I have this phone and so far I love it. But there is 1 thing that some people may have issues with. The 3g is not tri band but 2100 so it only works on european networks right now. (it appears a rom update is under way to fix this since pre production units had tri band 3g). About battery life, I get 2 days out of one charge with moderate use. But if you leave bluetooth and wifi on all the time I can imagine your battery would drain quickly.

Here's to hoping that t-mobile usa rocks this along with the tytn II and calls them the SDA II and MDA II.
It would be a toss up for sure
