Sprint prepped to launch Samsung SPH-M800

Samsung is on a roll this morning, though this isn't as official as the SGH-F490 announced a few minutes ago, but the branding suggest this will show up at Sprint. Sadly, the word is that the 5 megapixel cam found in the F490 has been replaced here with a 2 megapixel shooter, but it does rock EV-DO, and for that we give thanks. No word on when this'll appear or how much it'll cost, but we expect we'll hear more soon.

Finally a descent phone for Sprint!
plh2034 @ Jan 10th 2008 4:37PM
I need more info but
This device just may be the thing that keeps me with Sprint.
All i want is an iPhone sized screen with GPS, good battery life, 3G and a real web browser.

Holy shit, and I just bought a Q9c. JUST. There is no way this thing is coming out within 30 days.
.... is there? please? God?
SiegeAy @ Jan 10th 2008 10:19PM
Mark,
If you upgraded to the Q9c (vs. new activation) just take it back and go back to your old phone until the M-800 drops. Just make sure at the store, they notate your account that you did not use your upgrade.

Looks just like TouchFlo

WORTHLESS! Why would they drop the 5MP camera?????? Sprint, you never cease to amaze me and you will run me off when my contract ends in Oct if you don't get a decent 5MP camera out soon.
Wake up and smell the megapixels!
shattereddove @ Jan 10th 2008 2:57PM
It really isn't about the mega pixels... its more of the camera sensor. A phone can have a 5MP camera with a bad sensor where a phone can have a 2MP camera with a good camera and the 2MP would have such a better picture quality.

You do realize that a 5mp camera would raise the cost and if they wanna sell alot of these they need to keep the cost as low as they can while still keeping the features attractive. You can't get it all.

Your're going to leave sprint because of the megapixel's? Come on now. First of all NO U.S. Carriers have any phones with that many megapixels. Verizon has one with 3.2. You know how much a 5 megapixel camera phone would cost? Anyway I heard that it's actually coing to be Sprint's first phone that uses Rev-A instead of Rev-O. This thing will blow the I-phone out of the water with speed. But go ahead don't get one, that just means one less person in front of me in line for it.

Picture mail would take forever if it were 5MP. Thats probably why they went with the 2MP just to make sure it actually works over the network. Cant wait for pricing and more info!!

Not with Sprint, LOL! No, if I wanted to pay top dollar, I'd probably be with a different company. Sprint gives me good service for a good price, so I put up with things like inadequate phone selection (so far). A 5MP camera would be nice, since it's all that's really needed for 4x6 quality prints. Heck, it probably would have taken my current camera out of it's job! It also would have made this phone so expensive that I would not have considered it. I'd love my phone to run on a OS X architecture, but I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for it. Same for the 5MP.
I'm holding onto Sprint because I figure that the iPhone would cost me around $1000 for 2 years of service (start up cost + increased monthlies). If Sprint's replacement for that is too much money then I'll just go ahead and get the iPhone. 5MP was not a deal breaker and Wi-Fi is not a deal breaker. The iPhone has Wi-Fi primarily because 3G sucks (according to Steve Jobs it is because it sucks battery life, but AT&T's 3G network still sucks period). It would be nice... but the price point is going to be more important with Sprint than those two features alone.

Why does it have to be for Sprint? That's bullsh1t. Well, good thing that all European countries operate on GSM networks, otherwise, all GSMers over here would be screwed over. I'm.. just gonna wait until they unlock this beast.
btw... CDMA sucks. =)

A Sprint site says June for the release date. Here is the site: http://www.nowisgood.com/?id9=SEM

Looks promising, although they're saying you have to upgrade to a $100/month plan to buy it.
