Yahoo's been taking it's mobile strategy pretty seriously over the course of the past couple years, having zoomed through two revisions of its Go portal app on
multiple platforms. They've officially unveiled yet another major version today -- 3.0, to be exact -- featuring a new icon view (in addition to the old-school carousel view) and support for widgets. Widgets, you say? Yep, that's the real meat of today's announcements: Yahoo has opened the floodgates to third party development with its Mobile Developer Platform, promising a future rich with widgets that'll plug into Go and make it even meatier than it already is. eBay, MTV, and MySpace have already crafted widgets for the platform, too, so it's a promising start. Yahoo! Go 3.0 is available now for a wide variety of S60 and BlackBerry devices, and we're guessing that Windows Mobile will be following on shortly.

Ah, the usual yahoo pattern. Make a big splashy announcement of a product available on an incredibly small number of handsets, then do nothing for months.

yeah, lets make this program available for Verizon Brew phones, and include it with Vcast. That would be pretty sweet...

Do nothing for months? They went from maybe 20-30 handsets back when they announced it to a ton, including quite a few Palms, Sony Ericssons and LGs, too.
I even did the unthinkable at one point and bought a Razr V3xx for a little while because of it's combination of having both 3G and Y!Go 2.0.
I hope this time around they make the app for Helio devices, too!

Not available on my N95-1, wtf yahoo?

Everyone has their own widget platform now, which use HTML and some dynamic script to present embedded interactive apps. It was started by some third party company (or maybe a Unix-y app like GKrell, I forget), then Apple, Google for IG, Symbian (with OVI) and Yahoo, and others I've missed I'm sure. What a lot of scrambling around as everyone does the same thing.

A Slew of Phones !
Someone's not doing their research. At Yahoo's Mobile Go site they list over 270 (!) handsets that are compatible ! And Windows Mobile is well represented including my HTC Mogul.

Oops, my bad, there were two columns of phones listed. I was apparently looking in the Yahoo Go v2.0 column. There's only about 35 handsets that are v3.0 capable now, and my Mogul (or any WinMob phone) is not one of them.
