Phone Scoop is now reporting that the entry level
Rumor QWERTY device -- a phone we've heard from our own commenters to be suffering from some data erasure issues -- wasn't
pulled from the line of duty as reported earlier; rather, it has just become a victim of its own success. Sprint says that low inventory levels are keeping Rumors out of retailers' hands, but the carrier is working to kick up production a notch or two and get phones back into the system. Oh, and those issues we've heard about? Sprint claims they only hit a limited number of customers and there's already a fix available. All this probably doesn't offer much consolation to folks who desperately want a Rumor this very second, but keep an eye on your local stores and let us know in comments if you hear or see anything interesting, k?

Unfortunately, this issue is being mis-reported very badly... and the clarification is being mis-reported even worse.
A software fix is not yet available. Sprint has one, but has not yet released it.
Sprint did have a high increase in demand that they weren't expecting, but also cut re-supplies until the issue had been fixed. The two problems it Rumor supply channels at the same time.
I'm not blaming the drive-by mobile media for getting this wrong, it's a tricky story, but at least comments like this will help you guys get it right.

Who sells a phone without EVDO?
sprintmania @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:53PM
take it form me, the rumor is not a power vision phone and never will be
hitjim @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:22AM
I would have likely picked this one up to replace my current phone down the line... if it had EVDO.
randall.lyons @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:26AM
The LG Rumor IS EVDO. Sprint uses the marketing name of "Power Vision" for it's EVDO network, and the Rumor is a Power Vision phone.
TheWatcher @ Jan 5th 2008 6:28PM
The Rumor is "NOT" EVDO. It just uses Vision. I have one now and it works fine with Vision. For the audience they are targeting (pre teens to early 20's) it works fine.

I'm pretty sure that Wal-Mart had some in stock when I was there yesterday...

It seems as though this phone was appropriately named. :P

I bought the LG Rumor and love it. Great phone. Only issue I see is when I turn it on it say MIPS Error 1012 then disappears like its telling me it failed activation but it goes away and I use it all the time. Glad I got one. I heard Samsungs Upstage which was more expensive sucked bigtime. They said stay away from that phone.
gutboy09 @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:55PM
It also says Qualcomm 3G CDMA on the back of the phone.
rawmustard @ Jan 4th 2008 4:22PM
That's because 1xRTT is considered to be 3G, even though the download speeds are considerably slower.

Just got three for the family last night although they did not have any white ones on hand. So, I thionk they are back in stock with full force.

Well...considering they're BOTH made by LG, I hope the concept isn't too complicated for you to wrap your head around.

i just got this phone 2 days ago and im going to be returning them tomorrow. i got a white one, which does not work at all, it shows its activated but will not let any calls go through, either outgoing or incoming. i also got the black one and it will not store any numbers that are called or incoming, and it also doesnt register for missed calls, i will say its a good idea for a phone, just make them work!
