LG Voyager gets big honkin' firmware update
So, first the bad news: you've gotta trek all the way down to a Verizon shop to get your Voyager updated to the latest rev. Now, the good: it's probably worthwhile. LG's latest and greatest firmware for the Voyager superphone appears to bring a host of fixes and enhancements ranging from better battery life (or so they say, anyway) to an improved browsing experience. Let us know how it goes if you go get 'er flashed, k?[Via Boy Genius Report]

Does everyone who owns an iphone have a small penis, or is it just the ones who post on message boards?
airhoppz @ Feb 9th 2008 6:25PM
Yeah I'll agree with you - I think the iPhone is an awesome piece of technology, but just because you have one doesn't make everything into a penis-checking contest.
Trevor Munkee @ Mar 4th 2008 8:15PM
I dont have an Iphone but...oh wait never mind
markymarkcirca @ Dec 19th 2007 1:06PM
I'm gettin flashed today woo!!
Nando @ Dec 19th 2007 1:43PM
:pulls pants down:
Happy now?!
Frostoy @ Dec 19th 2007 1:34PM
as I am posting this from my iPhone I'll think of you standing in line at the horrid verizon store waiting for your neat'o voyage-less dumbphone to get flashed, while all I have to do to update my iPhone is plug it in to my computer.
Suckers....
storino03 @ Dec 19th 2007 1:36PM
I don't see why they never implemented FOTA to update without going to a store or PC connectivity.

And while you spend all that time wither trying to load the page of find a spot i'm gonna be standing line thinking boy isn't 3g just the greatest i mean its actually not frustrating to use
haha suckers and there silly slow interweb haha
elgee02 @ Dec 19th 2007 1:55PM
Why do you have an iPhone and a Voyager?
joe @ Dec 19th 2007 4:55PM
yeah, have fun browsing and posting on your slow-ass iphone connection
lolwut @ Dec 19th 2007 2:52PM
I see the word "frost" in your name, which is a bit ironic considering all the hot air coming out of your head.
elgee02 @ Dec 19th 2007 4:28PM
Oh nm, I misread and thought you WERE at a VZW store flashing a voyager while posting from an iPhone... my bad.
Shadow08 @ Dec 20th 2007 9:25PM
Hey! Don't forget to have fun wasting your time by installing updates on your iPhone for revolutionary features, including.... VOICE NOTES!! Something my dumb-phone has had since 2001.
khoreece @ Jan 20th 2008 2:22AM
dumbass it's a firmware update.. im pretty sure you can't update your iphone's HARDWARE by connecting it to your cpu
markymarkcirca @ Dec 19th 2007 2:33PM
Frostoy, you speak as though a trip to Verizon is the worst thing in the world. Perhaps for some, but mine is 5 mins from my house, negating your retarded mark. The Voyager is better than the iphone in many ways. BTW have you checked cnet's comparison recently..? There's some professional opinions for ya. 3G > wifi/3G-less
George @ Dec 19th 2007 3:23PM
From reviews that I've read, the 3G on the Voyager doesn't appear to be all that great. About a whole minute to load Phonearena, com, an iPhone takes about the same time (only a few seconds longer) despite being on a connection being a few times slower.

A phone is only as good as what its hardware can handle.

But the deciding point ultimately comes to function for me. An iPhone can view PDF and .doc files on the go without any other applications, while a Voyager can't. But the biggest problem with the Voyager (from my view) is its lack of auto-checking HTML (as most e-mails are nowadays) e-mail. The fact that third party applications are coming in February for the iPhone is another advantage.
elgee02 @ Dec 19th 2007 4:13PM
I definitely give the iPhone the edge in overall interface. The integrated iTunes and the pinch zoom thing especially. And pure asthetics, the iPhone wins the beauty contest.
Feature wise, I go with the Voyager. 3G is a huge plus, and the browser load time will be remedied with this flash update. Also MMS, IM (MSN, Yahoo, and AIM), and A2DP capability give the Voyager an edge here.
All in all, the iPhone is a better phone than the Voyager. I am an LG and VZW fanboy but I can admit that. That said, the Voyager is a good option for those who prefer the VZW network and customers who have bought it have been overwhelmingly satisfied.
In can be summed up in 4 words: To each their own

All this arguing is great and all, but i wanna know what is actually improved...
It says mobile web/HTML browser enhancements.. great but what are they? can someone that got the update please answer with more detailed changes? I'm strongly considering the voyager, but the samsung i760 (i think is the number) WinMo6 phone is also drawing my eye. I wanna know if it's gonna be worth going with a dumb-phone with the functionality i use the most, or a phone that i can add software left and right to.
Mike Crow @ Dec 19th 2007 7:13PM
im confused if i did this right. On the boy genius report page it said it would allow me to use ESPN on my touch screen, but i still cant. I dialed *228 and pressed 1 to program my phone and did it again pressing 2 to update my roaming capabilities. am i doing it right?
Tucker @ Dec 20th 2007 8:59AM
You have to go the store. Read the story. It's in the first line.
Matt @ Dec 20th 2007 1:39AM
"Firmware" update... you need to take it in... the capability of *228-ing these updates is coming... but for now you'll need to take it to the store for a manual update...
... meanwhile, the "revolutionary" iPhone has had ump-teen updates to it already when it was supposed to be this amazing thing at launch... yeah, check out that cnet review... nough said.
dare instructor @ Dec 20th 2007 9:15AM
What?
salsa @ Dec 20th 2007 1:35PM
Love that "SHORTCUT MENU"-- nice for them to make that SO CLEAR.
From a design perspective, the Voyager looks perfectly moronic next to the iPhone.
Jimmy @ Dec 22nd 2007 8:14AM
I just ordered my voyager yesterday, and it's coming on the 28th.
Will it have the new software, or will I have to go to a verizon store that's an hour away tog et it updated?
Nate @ Dec 21st 2007 9:48PM
What I am wondering about all this is the Voyager is a nicely desgin phone but if there 3G for this phone is so great this some please tell me how come VZW is take on a new network for there 4G platform the problem with this is that this new Platform its made by the telecomm which pay a major roll in GSM There are 3 4G networks coming up Sprint pick WiMax and AT&T has gone with LTE also Version so dose that mean they have to change there whole network? They have abandon UMB which is Rev.C for CDMA whats going on? also the 4G networks well be rolling out in the next year, but my main question is how come VZW is going with a 4G GSM platform?LTE all the way

Got my updated. When I took the phone in, it was 3 bars left on the bat. When it finished, it shows up.......good sign for battery life?
It took me 15 mins only cause I know someone in the store......
Mike Crow @ Dec 23rd 2007 5:13PM
hey whoever has done the update were u able to use espn mvp on the touch screen. it says u can but my isnt lettin me do it
Mike @ Dec 24th 2007 1:00PM
Well..... I just went to the Verizon store today, and our trusty friends didnt seem to know what firmware update i was talking about. Needless to say, i was not surprised by their lack of knowledge and generally buffoonery. Wish I had an iPhone....
Jeremy @ Dec 24th 2007 4:40PM
I also cannot look at ESPN on the touchscreen after the update. What's up with that?
