Example that camera truly out shines N95 and not only because of the flash ;) From S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 phones this could have almost had 5 stars if it had just a bit bigger screen. Maybe it was just solid add to their portfolio Nokia mono block(what they do best) andexellent camera. Screen size might be just to distinct it from N95 so holiday sales wont go down?

Pdexter

Comments on Nokia N82 hands-on

Yes it would have had 5 stars if the screen had been at least 2.6 inches ala N95-1, but to be honest with you I believe that this was a deliberate marketing ploy by Nokia not to interfere with N95/N95 8GB sales.

As it is I still think it is a better device than the N95 8GB. I don't subscribe to this 'I can't show it off to anyone on the bus' philosophy. I am a new Nokia N82 user just for a few days. Now my phone works great. I have just tested N82 for some of the internal features it supports. I find that a-GPS and orientation sensor work fine. GPS on battery life is significantly better. I even find that Nokia N82 delivers remarkably vivid photographs, even in low-light conditions. That's really fantastic. Now owning this smart phone is not a big problem. I found it with a good price here: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=73568 , I am sure that if you like Nokia, this one will be a good choice for you.

Jason

Comments on Nokia N82 hands-on

I'm trying to find definitive answers to these n82 questions.. anyone know?

Flashlight mode?
USB charging?
HSDPA compatible with Fido?

Thanks!

davidm

Comments on Nokia N82 hands-on

HSDPA not compatible with Fido. The only drawback is the compression is more aggressive, which means edges can be soft and details lost, and Nokia doesn't provide a way to choose compression levels. Maybe they will in an update, they seem pretty good at updating lines (at least until they're "obsolete").

davidm

Comments on Nokia N82 hands-on

Not used it but using A-GPS natively it's designed to get a lock within 20 seconds and I hear that it usually does it in under 10.

And about the USB charging, for some reason haven't seen fit to extend that feature beyond their S40s yet, probably soon.

I'm really tempted by this but with feature pack 2 just around the corner (apparently it's really fast and has subtle transition effects, which I think really makes a phone feel solid) and S60 v4 + Touch coming next summer I just can't convince myself to part with the money. It's a truly exceptional phone (disclaimer: I live in Europe, so I can fully enjoy its 3G goodness).
A couple of (very minor) negative points comparing to the N95:
1) the remote control that comes in the box doesn't allow to control the music player (has only volume control and start/end conversation buttons). No biggie, I ordered the Nokia AD-43, which is reported to work with the N82.
2) it has a micro-USB port instead of a mini-USB one. Although there's a cable included in the box, it's one of the first few devices which use micro-USB, so finding another cable if you lose this one is currently a problem. This should solve itself as micro-USB becomes more widespread.

rav97

Comments on Nokia N82 hands-on

Hey guys, i feel its going the n73 way with this phone.
