The Boy Genius Report: Get Verizon's Treo 755p next week!
Field tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, The Boy Genius. After we heard that the 755p had finally (finally) passed Verizon's battery of tests yesterday, it seemed inevitable that a launch was imminent -- but wowza, we didn't realize just how imminent! Look for the launch to go down next Monday, December 17 online and on the horn with a follow-on release in physical stores come January 7. Now here's where it gets crazy: Verizon looks to command a hearty $449.99 for this sucker on a two-year contract, so we can only hope that there'll be some significant rebateage going on out of the gate.

What email app is that on the screen? Verizon's client or is that some new version of Versamail?

For as long as this thing has been delayed, and the fact that it's really no different than the 700p, that price is a bit ridiculous. It might be worth it though, if their extensive testing has actually fixed the bugs present on the Sprint version, and on the 700p (even after all the updates). But I really don't believe Palm is capable of fixing the Garnet OS. They've had like 5 years to do it, and look at what a mess it is.
I wanted this phone so bad six months ago I'd have paid anything, but eventually I gave up waiting for Verizon to release a new smartphone -- ANY smartphone -- and left for AT&T. So since it no longer matters personally to me, I hope Verizon has punished Palm for their incompetence. I have no love for Verizon, but they've earned my respect a little for telling Palm, "Go to your room and don't come out until you make a phone that works!" I will be VERY interested to hear if it actually does work, or if all that wait was for nothing.

IS THIS TREO EVEN RELEVANT FOR THIS TIME, NO WIFI STILL? THANKS BUT NO THANKS.

The phone includes a $50 MIR, $100 off with data pland and $100 off with NE2, if eligible.
So, with a new 2 yr. contract the phone is $300 and if you are an existing customer the phone will be $200.
Still a bit steep, but there is a lot of discounts on the phone.

If its just the same PalmOS, then it might be fine to stick with Verizon but I'm thinking that craptastic company will screw with the OS and lock down all the cool stuff. I'm going to Sprint and the Centro in a couple of months. Nothing like firing up a game of Doom or Quake while I'm waiting for the clothes to dry!

As much as Verizon execs deserve to burn in hell for all eternity for the crippling they do on phones, they generally leave the Palm ones alone. I think Sprint's phones come with a few extra apps in ROM, but some people call that bloat. Depends on your perspective, I guess. But unless they've changed policy with this model, you should find the 755p just as open as any other Palm.

They'll cripple Bluetooth as usual.
