A friendly reminder to our friends on Alltel:
your very own BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is now available. Announced last month, Alltel's 8130 is pretty much like any other 8130, which is to say it's 3.4 ounces of emailin', SureTypin' happiness in a lovely "amethyst" shade that should be appropriate for both business and personal users. GPS, microSDHC support, a 3.5mm jack, and a 2 megapixel cam headline the feature list -- but then again, you
Sprint and
Verizon peeps already know all about that, don't you? Track down the 8130 on Alltel now for a shade under $150 after $100 rebate.

Beware of Alltel's warranty policy. I had this thing a day and the trackball intermittently stopped scrolling up. Two different reps at the store lied to me, telling me nothing is wrong and it's all in my head. They also told me there were none left in stock. I called the store from another phone 10 minutes later and they had "plenty in stock". They also informed me that while you can get a refund (minus activation fee) or swap for a DIFFERENT phone in 15 days, they will not replace the phone if it has a defect, not even after *1 day*. I opted for the refund.
Put simply, if you are with Alltel, you're best to get a phone that is simple and reliable, and cheap to replace if it breaks, because YOU WILL pay full cost to fix anything with Alltel, regardless of fault or warranty. Test the phone thoroughly before stepping out of the store. That nice attitude the reps had selling you the phone will disappear instantly if you have any trouble afterward.
