iPhone hacked to control Pro Tools
This one might only be interesting to the musicians out there, but anyone's who's ever struggled to control Pro Tools while trying to lay down tracks will definitely be interested in Alex le Lievre's slick iPhone / iPod touch control surface app. The utility connects over WiFi to a server program and MIDI controller on your audio workstation, and allows you to remotely control Pro Tools using the iPhone's multitouch interface, all while reflecting levels and automated fades in real time. Alex says he plans to sell the app once the official SDK hits in February -- here's hoping his target audience doesn't mind all that GSM noise the iPhone generates. Check a vid of the app in action after the break.

All of these "Control" apps are nice hacks but rarely are any of them practical. Bottom line - no one - NO ONE - that owns Pro Tools is going to have any need for this - they have REAL control surfaces.

Ya, but the people who pirate the software will love this.

Funny, but higher quality audio equipment should be shielded from such things, so that really shouldn't be an issue.

Recording gear might be, but instruments rarely are -- my Tele picks up every phone for miles.

Couldn't you just turn off the phone, but leave wi-fi on?

I'm a ProTools owner and I also have an 002 control surface. I wrote ProRemote so I guess at least I have a need for it- I also own a Tranzport but can't get far enough away from my rig.
You true ProTools users who have assistants certainly don't need this software.
Also you can turn off the radio and keep on Wifi and then you have no noise. At least I have experienced none.

As a ProTools user and recent iPod Touch owner I would certainly like to check this out!
