Palm finally posts Windows Mobile 6 for AT&T's Treo 750
Some ten months after we first saw Treo 750s running Windows Mobile 6, AT&T and Palm have finally dropped an official upgrade today for the carrier's branded units. Turns out that Windows Mobile 6 is just the start with this little gem of an update, though -- you'll also get HSDPA support (yeah, that's right, you've been rocking plain ol' UMTS up until now), access to AT&T Cellular Video, functional Voice Command while using a Bluetooth headset, device charging via USB, and the list goes on. Head on over to Palm's site to kick off the download, and naturally, be sure to let us know how it goes.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]
Update: Aaaand there we are with the problems. Fortunately, we're not (yet) hearing about bricked phones, just upset customers who are being blocked from downloading the updater, thanks to Palm's janky serial-checking tool. Way to go, Palm, we're sending air kisses your way. Thanks, Zack.
Update 2: Palm says that the serial number issues that plagued some of the first few folks to try to grab the update have now been resolved, so if you haven't updated yet, have a go at it, will ya? Thanks, Paul!

Upgrade went easy. Everything working so far.. Phone seems a little slower :( lets hope its just me
David @ Dec 4th 2007 9:17PM
The upgrade went great, but STILL no JAD support? I want native GMail and Google Maps on my phone dammit!
Jay @ Dec 4th 2007 10:18PM
I have tried 7 times to install the update but have not been able to install it. I have counted 3 blue screens of death too!
The update will copy the files, but after 20 seconds or so my Treo disconnects and then the updater app freezes.
Anyone else having issues?
Jay @ Dec 4th 2007 11:30PM
After about 9 tries I finally got the update to install. My Treo actually seems a little faster after the update. We just got 3G in the Pittsburgh area and I can't believe how fast it is compared to the EDGE on my iPhone. I might have to use this Treo a little bit more!
Digerati21 @ Dec 4th 2007 10:43PM
If the site says that the serial number is invalid, call Palm, they will give you a generic serial number. Also, if you try and extract the file, and it asks for a password, just hit skip file.
Upgrade went so smoothly after my chat with the Palm guys.

Here's the direct link to the download. A guy from Palm support gave it to me.
http://palmone.r3h.net/downloads.palm.com/Treo750_2_25_ATT_EN_DesktopUpdater.zip
JT @ Dec 5th 2007 2:04PM
For those that are cautious about the link I posted, that's the actual download link that Palm gives you after entering the serial number. I didn't upload it. R3h.net is one of the domains Akamai uses. They provide services for a lot of big corporations like Palm, Apple, Audi, and IBM.
Michael @ Dec 5th 2007 5:29PM
Worked like a charm for me. I'm looking forward to my faster internet and hopefully more stable OS.
Palm2401 @ Dec 5th 2007 6:46PM
Hey Chris,
Paul from Palm here - wanted to give everyone a quick update that the issue some people experienced when trying to valiate their device serial number has been resolved. They can visit the download page (http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo750update/att.html) and go through the process of validating their device serial number to install the WinMo 6 update to their AT&T/Cingular Treo 750.
Will Collins @ Dec 5th 2007 9:08PM
The update bricked my phone. A lovely rainbow color brick screen. Windows won't recognize the phone either. So much for waiting for the magical WM6. I should have left well enough alone.
AJ @ Dec 6th 2007 1:28PM
Similar issue here, although this page helped me out on their website:

Alert: Upgrade is missing Windows Live for Windows Mobile 6
I spent more than 1 hour on the phone with Palm support last night (what a nightmare, I had two people asking me to hold for more than 15 min and then hanging up on me... finally got the answer from the third person after more than half hour on the phone with her).
Basically this is what I was told:
1) There is no Windows Live in the AT&T version. AT&T stripped it out. Period. They want you to use Xpress Mail and their Instant Messaging instead of Windows Live. Palm support installed WM6 on an unlocked Treo 750 and it DID have Windows Live, so it was AT&T's decision. However, Palm will try you to think that you don't get it by pointing the Mobile IM (AT&T's messenger), then by pointing you to Windows Live using a browser, then to Xpress Mail. It really got me angry until they got my point that Windows Live is NOT included in the upgrade.
2) I pointed out to Palm that the manual that you download with the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade HAS Windows Live in it (page 133 unless they replaced it). That really made me mad. The manual is called "treo750att_UGupdate.pdf" yet it contains features that are NOT included (such as Windows Live). Way to do quality check Palm...
3) I did the setup of Xpress Mail to Hotmail and I am having problems. The thing doesn't synchronize (it dies with an error saying that it cannot connect to the server). This really sucks.
If anybody has a chance to post in more places over the net with this information, please do it. I really feel cheated by upgrading to Windows Mobile 6 (there is no downgrade to version 5) and loosing Pocket MSN (which was now replaced by Windows Live and not included in the AT&T version).
Enough said. This is a bad image for those of us who have been waiting for almost a year for the upgrade. We get the upgrade and we are cheated (by AT&T and then Palm by not doing a quality check on the features they are publishing in their manual).
If they have replaced the manual and eliminated Windows Live from it (page 133), shot me an e-mail and I will send you a copy of the one I downloaded.
Bob @ Dec 15th 2007 12:26PM
If I purchase a brand-new unlocked Palm Treo 650 with Windows 5.0 from an e-bay dealer to use with AT&T service, will I be able to upgrade through Palm to Windows 6.0 at no cost?
Is there a major reason NOT to purchase a new 650 at this time? I'm new to PDA/smartphone technology (but not technology in general) and don't want to make a stupid mistake right out of the box.
Thanks!

Upgraded to 6 about 3 weeks ago. I'm having issues with the Outlook locking up from time to time. This occurs during a wireless sync and when it occurs, (once every 12 to 36 hours), a soft boot via the battery is the only solution. Anyone else out there experiencing this?
