Windows Mobile 6.1 gets pictured, detailed
So this weird Motorola Q9 that Boy Genius Report came across is turning into quite a gold mine. First it revealed AT&T's apparent intention to let its guard down just a tad and start bringing more devices into the WiFi fold -- despite the obvious risk to data revenue -- and now it turns out that she's dressed to the nines with none other than Windows Mobile 6.1. A fleeting glance at most of the screens doesn't indicate any obvious changes from 6 (it is a .1 release, after all), but the devil's in the details: goodies like threaded SMS (Yahtzee!) and cut-and-freaking-paste on Standard (double Yahtzee!) alone should make it a worthwhile upgrade. 'Course, it's up to the carriers and manufacturers as usual to ultimately decide whether to push updates to existing devices, but it would be pure, unadulterated torture if the lion's share of devices didn't see official releases. Seriously, we'd cry.

WOW! I'm going through the pix now over at BG and all I can say is its about time....

ummm, in this case, should not it be the "the angel's in the details," or something? I gues it is pretty nice that MS is using resources on a "small" update. But I dont understand how the built in update feature of WinMo works, if the carriers and manufacturers have to be the ones to actually release the updates for their devices.

Office Mobile was upgraded to 6.1 (11/28/2007)
Windows Mobile Device Center is currently at 6.1
I expect it soon, really soon, at least a leaked firmware on XDA-Devs

Exactly ShortFuse, carriers & manufacturers can take as long as they want, as long as our beloved XDA devs are breathing, it doesn't matter.

Awesome! This means that this time next year Palm will be "just around the corner" from releasing this on my Treo 750!!!

Ofcourse, the Palm Treo 750 already has threaded SMS. The case on WM5, and still on WM6.

Im interested into how the WM6.1 Pro will look. Reports are that it looks v different than the current version.
Also the new marketing camp again here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/startdoingmore/
looks v different in the GUI, more vista/mac ish.
Any idea ehre this start doing more stuff came from? is it the marketing department trying to make win mobile look less dull, or is it going to look different?
