We've been patiently waiting for a national US carrier to launch a version of HTC's Libra for
nearly a year, and by golly, it looks like it might finally happen (and not in the hideous green Verizon was showing back in the day, either). The
UTStarcom-sourced XV5800 lies somewhere between the Vox and the
S730; although it shares 3G functionality with the S730, it's from the same vintage as the Vox (its GSM cousin) and
has launched on a
number of carriers. No word on a price or release date just yet, but it'd be a nice Festivus gift if we got 'er before the end of the year, yeah?

Terrence Meekins @ Nov 30th 2007 3:18PM
you mean...next year right???
when did we see the first pictures of the XV6800....At least 6 months ago...if not earlier...I went into a VZW store yesterday and they told me they still didn't have a release date. (although I know it.)
brad @ Nov 30th 2007 5:16PM
@ terrance
we saw it first about a year ago

@ Terrance
So, you know the release date? Quit being a party pooper and tell all will ya?!!
I just hope that it's not an on-line only deal... I want to handle it first... I know it's going to be a lot of coin to take it home when it finally gets here.
The D Train @ Dec 1st 2007 12:27PM
There is no release date for the phone yet.
VZWdude @ Dec 5th 2007 4:27PM
If Terrence did know the release date he would have spilled it by now. He knows nothing. All we can do is speculate at this point.
Zale @ Nov 30th 2007 2:45PM
Wish it had something other than WinMo on it.
brad @ Nov 30th 2007 2:45PM
I wish this phone had wifi, but regardless i still think ill pick it up...its great for people who dont need a hardcore pda phone but want the added benefits of win mo

"Like the XV6800, but not"
What part of this phone is like the XV6800? It has a numeric keypad on the front, Windows Mobile 6 Standard (meaning no touchscreen), and a physical appearance that - even without the numeric pad - bears no resemblance.
Mark Richardson @ Nov 30th 2007 2:48PM
Oh yeah, and as Brad pointed out, it has no WiFi either.
Very similar to the XV6800 indeed!
RC @ Nov 30th 2007 6:39PM
I wouldn't expect this phone with Verizon any earlier than at least May 2008. And that's a generous guess ;)

Chris Ziegler....What the heck are you trying to say in this posting???
Someone should edit the editor!
...Too much eggnog perhaps?
Chris Ziegler @ Dec 1st 2007 11:06AM
What parts are you having trouble with?
Chris
myke3630 @ Dec 1st 2007 5:52PM
How is this like the xv6800? Well, it's a UTStarcom slide-out qwerty Windows Mobile PDA/Smartphone. I'd say that's similarity enough. It's supposed to be a step down from the 6800, not identical.
meeno01 @ Dec 1st 2007 10:10PM
when i called verizon about it, they told me that the release date was december 5th for the vx6800 for 599 at the contract price
fyreblazer @ Dec 2nd 2007 8:02PM
I'd be really suprised if this XV5800 (Libra) comes out before AT&T's SMT5700 (Vox). Either way US carriers have really dropped the ball in bring this one to the states. I just don't understand why there always seems to be a year lead time for the European & Asian nations.
deano.public @ Dec 5th 2007 4:56PM
Any chance this will have Windows Mobile 6.1 on it?
(bwaahaaahaahahhahh...haaaaaa...ha.....er.....ohhhhhh verizon and your testing...killing me...)
