Of course the
3G iPhone is coming, that's clearly in the evolution plan. As Jobs said himself, it's only a matter of time until improved batteries allow for it. Still, when AT&T's CEO Randall Stephenson says, "You'll have it next year," well, our ears tend to perk up. The remark was made at a meeting of the Churchill Club in Santa Clara. He didn't say how much it could cost admitting that Jobs and Apple "will dictate what the price of the phone is." However, it wouldn't surprise us if fits back into the
$599 slot vacated by the 8GB iPhone while toting a full 16GB of flash like the iPod touch.

How weird yesterday when I asked an ATT rep if a 3G iPhone was coming she was positive that it was coming but didnt know a due date.

Yea, I'm not falling for that $599 for two months trick. I'll just stick with my Virtual iPhone http://vphone.red-rome.com until the price of the 16GB 3G iPhone drops to $399.

does that mean january of 2008 or this time next year?

It wouldn't shock me to see Steve Jobs playing with it at MacWorld next year. I have the first generation iPhone and got it after the price drop so I'll wait and see what pans out with this thing. Last thing i'd like to see is the NEW 16gb 3G capable iPhone that can't MMS or who knows what other simple task it won't do at $599.

i will get an iphone once they have 3g, mms, and video share. those three items should pretty much be standard on any $250+ (list price) phone at this point. no excuses.

Meanwhile, I'm using 3G now from the USA to Japan on my Kaiser with a custom ROM build, Asian localization, and my selection of apps.
Lalala.

Boy, it's a good thing that all the die-hard Apple fans who bought the iPhone will be able to sign a new contract and upgrade their phones!
Oh, wait.
youngcalihottie @ Dec 29th 2007 11:03PM
i wouldnt doubt it if you would be allowed to. its not like the phone was subsidized.
currently, if you are already in a contract you can still get the iphone. dont see why the second would be any different. its just more like a "purchase" than an "upgrade." The term upgrade usually implies some type of discount. you can go into any att store and just purchase a phone and put your sim in it.
