Again, with more GSM: Motorola's Z6c for Verizon clears FCC
Perhaps Verizon realizes that it needs more worldphones on its roster, perhaps it just realizes that not everyone needs VCAST TV -- but whatever the reason may be, Motorola has ushered the GSM-capable MOTORIZR Z6c slider into existence. Featuring dual-band GSM for European and Asian compatibility alongside the usual CDMA with EV-DO for domestic use, the Z6c forgoes MediaFLO support altogether but retains the Z6tv's QVGA display and 2 megapixel cam. No word on a release date, but now that the FCC hurdle has been cleared, we'd be surprised if Verizon didn't at least try to squeeze 'er out in time to pick up some holiday sales.

Yeah, hold the silly VCast TV and give me phone that'll actually work in Europe as well as on Verizon's US network. This should help direct a few international GSM customers away from T-Mobile, et al and toward Verizon for their US cell service needs.

Have fun with this phone in South America where GSM 850 and 1900 are very popular.

Verizon should just fall off the face of the earth already. Until it becomes a universal carrier (GSM/LTE), they will continue to be useless, like the miles/pounds/feet.

So useless that 63 million customers have them right now, and growing!
You do realize the demand for roaming internationally is still very very small right?

This is good because you could save money by buying this phone instead of buying a CDMA phone from Verizon and Renting a GSM phone from Verizon or a Satellite phone from Verizon which is pretty expensive.

The Z6c doesn't support V CAST TV. In exchange for the 900/1800 GSM bands, there is no MediaFLO support. No MediaFLO = No V CAST TV.

Well I think it makes sense for Verizon to offer more "World" phones. While the consumer demand for international roaming is very very small. The demand for large businesses and government I would think would be fairly high. I really see Verizon offering these kinds of services to compete more with AT&T. I also wouldn't be surprised if Vodaphone starts renting or selling these phones for people traveling to the US from Europe. Since Vodaphone is a Verizon Wireless business partner that happens to own 45% of the company it'd be in their interests to cut down on roaming.
