Verizon Wireless' U940, aka F700, poses for some shots

Nice to see Samsung's sliding gem get a little more real courtesy of the fine peeps at Phonearena. We first saw this guy back in March of this year at CeBIT and have been loving it ever since, cause, what's not to love, right? QWERTY goodness, giant touch screen, and we'll be able to get it over here, not just in GSM-land or on Vodafone. No word on dates yet -- as this is apparently an early prototype of the final device -- but this sort of in the flesh thing seriously makes out hearts sing. Go Verizon!

You can always count on Verizon to uglify the most beautiful interface. Thanks a lot VZW!
elgee02 @ Nov 16th 2007 4:34PM
Uglify? The interface is so easy and simple, and definitely not ugly... well if it's anything like the Voyager which I have played with quite a bit.
m @ Nov 16th 2007 4:30PM
if I unlock this phone, will i be able to use it on Sprint?
sgt_easton @ Nov 16th 2007 4:56PM
Verizon won't unlock it for you.
Is anyone else getting sick of these questions?
tnkgrl @ Nov 16th 2007 4:41PM
That Verizon logo really ruins it.
Randy @ Nov 16th 2007 4:42PM
Having never actually held/use it, I really like this Device. However, I'm not crazy about the Croix UI. I think WM6 Pro on this Bad boy would Rock.
Yeah, WM6 and retain the Wifi; And I would replace my Blackjack with this in a heartbeat.
brad @ Nov 16th 2007 5:02PM
looks pretty good, but thick...and it said early prototype meaning we wont see it until a year from now...wasnt it arond this time last year when we saw the i760 and 6800?
byaah @ Nov 16th 2007 5:23PM
With Verizon, who knows? They are just now getting the Treo that everyone else has had for ages. =/
HA @ Nov 16th 2007 5:30PM
The Freakin 6800 will be out by the end of this month for 499.99 on a 2yr contract will people finally get over this...
riderbing @ Nov 16th 2007 5:34PM
Randy why would you want windows 6 and wi-fi on the phone? That is retarded. windows sucks on phones and freezes up. verizon has the broadband service which is way better than wi-fi. great phone and verizon is doing a great job with their latest phone releases and more to come. i dont see what is so ugly about the interface. the iphone has a very ugly interface as well so bitch about that.do you see people bitching about the windows interface? get used to it.
Sam Winter @ Nov 17th 2007 3:39PM
If you have to ask why you would want Windows Mobile 6 Pro vs some bullshit knockoff OS without applications, or why you would want WiFi in a phone, then you obviously are on the wrong website. And this is besides the idiotic comment about verizon "doing a great job with their phone releases". ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? We waited 14 months for the i760 and the 6800 IS STILL NOWHERE TO BE FOUND!
For the last three years, they have had the absolute WORST lineup of smartphones of any carrier in the G8!
Randy @ Nov 17th 2007 8:31PM
@ Sam,
I wouldn't bother with him. If you look at his comment history, he's some sort of Verizon Troll.
Edward Bixler @ Nov 16th 2007 6:26PM
I am really excited about this phone. I am curious if anybody knows if this will be able to sync up with Microsoft Outlook. I currently have the Samsung 730 and I love how easily it syncs up with Outlook. Anybody have any idea if it will be able to sync up as easily?
Thanks in advance.
Alessandro @ Nov 16th 2007 6:43PM
Ciao,
the entire UI of this phone is base on Adobe Flash Lite. So it will be interesting to see how/if they change it!

yall need to stop complaining this phone rocks
and for those you that say that this phone will never come out because it's on verizon stfu
ok all the phones that they said would be out by the end of the year are either out or coming out
do you really think that verizon is holding them back on purpose? they don't just forget about the phone
DON'T WORRY YOUR GONNA GET YOUR FUCKING 6800 JESUS!!!!!
derX @ Nov 16th 2007 10:29PM
Dude, it takes VZW forever to launch phones: people's complaints are fully justified.
There is no need for anyone to "stfu" (although the occasional comma or capitalization of the beginnings of sentences would have been appreciated).
BTW, cursing in posts is generally looked down upon, it sometimes makes the commenter look like an inarticulate ass, if not done tastefully (as I have, LOL, JK).

Dude, just calm down a little. I am sure they'll release those phones like they promised and everyone will be silenced and sacrifice a goat in honor to the precognitivity-endowed Daniel S.
Per usual, I am just joking around, here. Don't take anything personally. It's Friday night and I am without plans LOL.
Nathan @ Nov 17th 2007 3:21AM
Verizon takes ages to release phones because they spend so much time in the lab figuring ways to destroy OBEX profiles, WiFi (which, incidentally, I would prefer over an over-priced data package that was bandwidth limited) and basically anything else that would allow you to do something with your phone without simultaneously paying Verizon.
I have been with Verizon for 6 years because in rural Warshington State they are, or rather were, the only game in town for reception, however with ATT getting mor prolific VZW is about to get shit-canned and I am going to be saying hello to an HTC Kaiser.
Also, just for the record, if I were getting the 6800 I wouldn't want to wait forever and a goddamned day all for a product that is crippled and technologically inferior to new releases on the GSM providers.
Rosco @ Nov 16th 2007 7:12PM
I think this would be awesome with the AndroidOS installed over it... no VZW UI for me.
CB17 @ Nov 16th 2007 7:18PM
Why is everyone so excited over a phone that has no PDA OS on it? I mean what's the point? It's just like the ocean/duo or sidekick...
And it's certainly not exciting enough to get a response like "Go Verizon" out of the clearly bias OP.
Blue Fusion @ Nov 16th 2007 7:28PM
This thing is beautiful! Good Bye iPhone, Touch, and Voyager!!
periks19 @ Nov 16th 2007 8:12PM
Wow Nice phone hope Sprint gets this one
Chris @ Nov 16th 2007 8:20PM
Yeah I have to agree on that. I would rather this thing have WM6 instead of this "Cross Bar" interface Samsung seems to love so much. But either way, I believe this is going to be a very successful device that will put Verizon back in the race with at&t. (If I was with The Big Red, I would definitely get this)
elgee02 @ Nov 17th 2007 12:41AM
smartphone interfaces are no way as user friendly and easy to learn as dumbphones. Teens who just want to text and IM, and adults who want a phone with a large screen, bluetooth, and mp3 capability are much better suited by a dumbphone than having to plod through WM to do that. Not everyone needs to download excel spreadsheets through their e-mail or sync an outlook calender.
If that's what you want get a BBerry or a Samsung i-760
Steven W. @ Nov 16th 2007 8:38PM
yall must be crazy. The Croix UI on this phone before Verizon changed it won an iF design award. WinMo is nothing compared to what the F700 is.. nowhere near.
The UI on this is most likely going to be exactly like the Vger, the only difference being a side-slider vs. side-flip.
Personally I think this, if it kept its Croix UI, would beat any dumbphone on the market (YES including the iPhone)
