And that's based on what, exactly? It looks to me as if Google has taken some nice first steps here - I really like the look, and although I doubt it'll be as responsive as it was in the video released with the SDK announcement (it'll depend on the hardware, of course), it was moving a lot snappier than anything I've run on any smartphone I've owned. Maybe on par with my Treo 650 from back in the day.
In my opinion, the beauty of Android is what I expect will be a multitude of functional third-party apps that people won't need to jailbreak their phone to use. And I think it's *likely* that even if those apps fail to materialize, Android will play nicely with all of Google's apps. Which will be fantastic.

Just a "cameo" fo Scifi/TV series reference : the boot loading screen is (I think) a reference of well know androids : Cylons (the non human ones) from Battlestar Galactica series (also the eye is present in the original "classic" series.
