Here's a little gem from the NBC series Bionic Woman. Yes, we're aware that the iPhone looks pretty much the same from both ends, but don't you think the average CIA agent would try flipping it around when he realized he couldn't hear anything?
Guess you guys didn't watch the episode. That character is Victor Booth aka the bad guy of the episode and has dirty blond hair. The CIA agent's name is Tom and has black hair.
wtf this is a blog not the new york times or cnn....if i were a writer on engadget mobile or whatever blog, id post about how my crap went last night...just because....
It's a fun story that points out Hollywood's shortcomings when it comes to electronics. From wrong-looking computers (Swordfish, anyone?) to improper use of gadgets seen here... lighten up man.
I wouldn't be too surprised if the director told him to hold it that way so as not to set off the proximity sensor located in (or near) the ear port - so the screen wouldn't turn off.
lol, yeah I was watching that and I pointed that out to my friends too. "He's holding the iphone upside-down." o_o
While you're at it, last week Stephen Colbert took a call on an iPhone (that was completely off) from the South Carolina Democratic Party. Somehow the call still went through, he must have installed truthiness...
Isn't NBC beefing with Apple? So wait...let me get this straight...
NBC doesn't like their shows on iTunes, but they have this deal to place Apple's products in everyone of the shows that they don't want Apple to profit from...
Why doesn't it make sense? Business is business. NBC was glad to take the money for the product placement, and Apple was glad to have it. The whole iTunes deal doesn't enter into the equation.
@ Jeremy W The hell it doesn't! If business IS business -- than you're in business to make money. So why would NBC pull their show's off iTunes? Stupidity. Obviously they shot the shows, before the iTunes deal fell apart, I'm sure you want be see iPhones on NBC show any more -- maybe Nokia.
Well, i guess you didn't say it was accurate telling of that. Cause there are some of us who know tech AND like flashy toys. I have my reason for owning the iPhone.. and I know my tech. I had a T-Mobile Wing. I just wanted something a bit more stable and user friendly.
Its the same on journyman... He holds the phone upside down when he talks... I noticed that in one of the early episodes, thought it was kind of weird and must be a mistake... but its like that every time he uses it.
Apple has some fantastic product placement. I am an apple fanboy (sans iPhone..) and I dont know if its because I love their stuff so much or what, but I tend to notice apple products in different movies, shows. in Bones and House they use ACD's, Computers and iPhones in Chuck and Journyman, tons of others...
actually, two NBC characters this year have some unique physical characteristics.
it seems that victor booth and dan vassar both have the ability to speak with their ear canals. and they can also sense audible sounds through vibrations in their teeth. these things are accomplished through bionic implants.
later this season, we'll see that will anthros implanted these devices into them in 1997. didn't you notice that both shows are set in san francisco?
it's all detail in the plot, and reminiscent of 80s tv shows, we're going to start to see some character crossover. stay tuned.
but they're certainly using their bionic powers to use the iphone in an even more advanced manner.

Where is that glow on his cheek coming from?
The D Train @ Nov 9th 2007 7:37PM
the screen, its not backwards just upside down. Either way why the hell would a "CIA" agent have an Iphone for doing "CIA" agent things.

I tend not to watch bad television but thanks for filling us in that he is the antagonist of the episode, it doesnt make it any better.
Mark @ Nov 9th 2007 7:51PM
The iPhone's accelerometer lets you hold it upside down as well.
Mark Richardson @ Nov 9th 2007 8:13PM
Was that a joke?

Except no, it doesn't.

NBC must have some kind of deal with Apple for iPhone product placement. It's been pretty blatant in a few episodes of Chuck.
jamma @ Nov 10th 2007 8:09AM
and in LOST as well: the satellite phone from series 3 if anyone's wondering
Brad @ Nov 10th 2007 12:09PM
in Journeyman (NBC) the main character uses an iphone

I kinda like the iPhone because it shows who knows their tech and who simply likes flashy designer toys.

What's an iPhone?
Jose @ Nov 22nd 2007 11:32AM
Maybe Hollywood is holding it upside down to avoid displaying the Apple logo on the back.
kevin chan @ Nov 22nd 2007 2:26PM
They just want the screen to be on cos they think it looks cooler. i think they did it on purpose.
Yuusou @ Nov 23rd 2007 1:02AM
I think Jose hit the nail in the head. They're doing it to hide the apple logo.
Proof being every show with Macbook Pros putting a round sticker over the apple logo.
Case closed. Next mystery?
