Bell to launch HTC Touch, include unlimited data for $7?
We've heard various whispers that Bell Canada is expected to release its own HTC Touch midway through the month of November to keep up with the Joneses, aka Rogers and Telus. We're fine with that and at a rumored $449 off contract, $399 one year, $299 two year, and $249 three year deals, Bell seems mostly inline with the other major's thinking. While we like the Touch, the more interesting rumor in this news lies in Bell's apparent decision to consider the Touch a normal cell phone -- and not a PDA -- thereby enabling it to use a $7 unlimited data plan. Of course, some traffic and usage exceptions will apparently apply, like no tethering, streaming, and the like, but seven bones for unlimited data! This is game changing in Canada's savagely priced data market and we're decidedly envious if this really comes to pass. Go Bell, go Canada!

Also does not brand their phones but most of them are phones de-branded from VZW.

I have been with Telus forever, and I just got an HTC, but if this is true, I am switching to Bell for sure.

This is true. Uses the unlimited mobile browser feature but it will not support tethering without data. Basically Bell is trying to bridge the Touch inbetween phones and data devices. The fun bundles will also give unlimited data.

Bell's Touch and (non-tethered) data plan at $7 is their preemptive strike against the upcoming iPhone. Very agressive strike indeed since the iPone's data plan is likely to be three times higher, like in the US

I just got my HTC touch from Bell, awesome phone, however the big thing I cannot understand is that they have dissable the WiFi Capabilities, I guess they don't want you to use it on your own network, oh well I got the browsing unlimited.

I'm not convinced. If you read the Bell website, the "Mobile Browser" has and always will be WAP. If you read what it says you get, "access to MSN and Sympatico", "download games", etc. is all those things you could do with WAP. Anything using the other Internet services, such as surfing other sites, works on the Touch but will ding you $12/MB (unless you have a more expensive e-mail/Internet plan.) It will hit the fan HARD when people get their first bills.

No, i have being browsing using Touch, no problems... Google Maps, e-mail and among other things works.
See if you have corporate plan thru your employers, because currently I paid $44.99 with no SAF, unlimited minutes income and outgoing, unlimited long distance, unlimited text message and mobile browser, enhance voice mail and caller id.
The downside is that they make you sign a 3 year contract.

You can only browse cheap bell mobility pages.
They will charge you up to 1000$/day if you navigate to Google and Hotmail pages with your cell phone.

Don't listen to that guy mathieu. I got the Touch and the $7 unlimited plan. It is unlimited for data as long as you are using it on the Touch (the guy was using a different device, check other forums) and not using it as a modem for your laptop. It is true for all data.
The name is a little bit confused because it call Unlimited Mobile Browser. But it works for other application as well (POP/IMAP, streaming .... ). Warning though, some application run on Windows Mobile will use the connecting as a modem. This is when you might get into trouble. What you can do is try to use the application a little bit. Wait for a couple of days for it to show up on your Unbilled Usage on bell.ca and see if it is recognized as Mobile Browser. If it is, you can use it unlimited.
