Hands-on with the Telus HTC Touch

Telus launched the HTC P3050 Touch amid cheers from CDMA fans of HTC's fantastic little touchable handheld. While nothing much has changed under the hood -- well, except for double the RAM, ROM on the GSM variant and a 400 MHz CPU -- we thought it only proper to do up a gallery and present it to you. As a quick reminder if you're pondering picking one up, these are sitting comfortably chez Telus at $99 on a three year bit or $499 free and clear. Hit the pics below to see the gallery.

Yes, nothing has changed ... except having a 400mhz vs 200 MHz processor, 128 MB ram vs 64 MB, no WIFI vs WIFI, and of course 3G EVDO vs slow EDGE.
Nothing has changed at all...

Doesn't the author mean nothing's change compared to Sprint's CDMA version?
MTM @ Nov 8th 2007 2:36PM
Then I think he wouldn't have written "...except of course the radio magic...". Unless Sprint uses other frequencies than Telus, of course.

Very true.. in my mind I was comparing to the Touch Slide, though as you can see, my mind seems lost. The Telus variant is sadly sans WiFi
Thanks for keepin' me honest!

Anyone know if its possible to get this sucker working on Verizons network?
frank @ Nov 8th 2007 4:45PM
@gareth: CDMA networks (Sprint and Verizon) are completely closed by nature. You're stuck with the phones they sell.

The Bell version, announced for Nov. 15, will be the only PDA classified as a regular cell phone so it will be able to take advantage of unlimited data for only $7/month. This is Bell's answer to the upcoming iPhone. No doubt Telus will have to revise its data plans. See howardforums.com for more info.

Oh Engadget you lost big brownie points on this one. First Sprint gets this phone and no mention of it, but you mention Telus getting it?? What? Then of course this a different animal (mostly good, some bad) from the GSM version.

This baby-up arrived from Sprint last night and am duly impressed.
Faster and much smaller than I expected!
The TouchFLO UI and re-worked home page kick-ass!!!
Took back the Samsung i760 I waited months for from Verizon. Had been with them for years but could bear it no longer. Man, that thing was comparatively a big, clunky... BRICK! Button placement and WM Pro straight-up did not work.
Going to try the Sprint network for 30 days and see what I'm giving-up.
Observations so far:
Customer Service - not as good, though Verizon's, may have been the best of any type I'd seen.
Signal Strength - TBD, though at my house, I'm getting 1 more bar.
Price - Sprint FTW! ... with unltd. data, about 50% less than big red.

Any chance of activating the WiFi with Telus?
