Verizon XV6800 / HTC Titan coming November 16th?

While AT&T customers have had the same technology for awhile in the 8525 -- and heck, even Sprint users can pick up a Mogul now -- those folks unfortunately locked into a Verizon contract are about two generations behind when it comes to HTC Windows Mobile devices. Well according to a purported insider going by the name "verizonguy" on the PPCgeeks forum, the long wait for VZW's XV6800 version of the Titan may soon be over, with the company reportedly planning a November 16th hard launch. What's more, an online-only soft launch could occur as soon as November 2nd, according to the writeup -- good news indeed, as long as you haven't already left Verizon in frustration for greener pastures.

Agreed. I'm almost turned off of every smart/PDAphone Verizon is going to (supposedly) offer because of how behind they are.

Verizon customers need to find a way out of their contracts if this is all that they are getting from their carrier. Sprint and T-Mobile are decades ahead of them when is comes to HTC devices.

I'm leaving Verizon by the end of the week. I'll have to pay the $175 ETF, but I'm sick of walking into Verizon stores and surveying their pathetic offerings or reading on Engadget about how I'm being PWN3D for staying on Verizon.

It's either the Tilt, the BB 8820, or the Curve 8310 for me. And no, the BB 8800 on Verizon is unacceptable: no GPS, no Wifi. I'll start with the Tilt and see where it takes me. But no matter what, I'm done with Verizon.

I feel you. I left Verizon after being with them since 2003. I got sick of waiting for them to put out decent WM6 phones with a touch screen. They are MONTHS behind their competitors. I was waiting for the SCH-i760. Left and got the Tilt. I'm not looking back and don't miss them. AT&T's network isn't as good as Verizon's, but it's not far behind and it is gaining. When I mentioned to my Verizon B2B guy how behind Verizon was and how many were thinking about switching to AT&T because the Tilt had far superior specs, his reply was, "Yeah...But you'll still be on their network...A phone's only as good as it's network". Uh...Maybe...Unless it is MORE THAN A PHONE!!! I wonder if they know how arrogant they sound.

I was out of contract and left Verizon a few weeks ago for AT&T and the iPhone. Very happy with my decision. I was indeed frustrated with Verizon dragging its feet with the XV6800. Before I left I spoke wih Verizon and was told that the reason XV6800 is still not out is due to testing. A bit of a delay is understandable but not 5+ months as Sprint had the phone out in June.

I agree! you canonly PREACH how good you network is soo much. they are soo behind on these things it's rediculous. AT&T has the tilt now. new version and has had the 8525 for about a year. shoot Sprint has had the Mogul since spring. An d is it me or does it look uglier then the others of the same model?

My friend is leaving Verizon for the Tilt. It's $99 after rebates on letstalk.com (if you get the correct data and voice plan bundle) and since Verizon prorates their ETF, it'll be a lot less than $175 to get out. You can cash your rebates and switch to the $20 unlimited data plan online (you don't have to argue/trick with a CSR) or just not get on. You can do the same for the voice plan, just do it online, quick and easy. Couple that with the fact you can get the stock HTC firmware from xda-developers (the CID lock has already cracked) and it's a sweet deal.

Ugly and Crippled

Not only does it have a plain-Jane look compared to my Sprint Mogul, but Verizon is notorious for crippling features normally available to the device. So you Verizos have got to be nightmaring if you're even going to be able to place or take calls with the 6800! Naw, but you know the score.

I already left Verizon. The rep I spoke to asked why I was leaving after being with them for so long and I told her because they don't offer the phones that I like. Moved to Cingular/AT&T for the 8525 about 6 months ago. It's a same because I liked Verizon's reception and service, but I just couldn't stand the choices (or lack of) anymore.

The Tilt is three times the phone that this is. HSUPA is faster than EVDO Rev A, the Tilt looks much sexier, its got the very handy tilting screen, more memory and onboard GPS is just icing on the cake.
Plus since its a GSM based HTC device, it was a trivial matter to crack it and start doing things with it. The HTC Titan hasn't been fully cracked yet so you can't quite yet do whatever you want with it.

I had an 8525 and now have an 8925 (Tilt).

There is no way in heck I would ever want an 8525 again. It is that bad in comparison.

I left Verizon last month after six years. I got fed up with their monopolistic phone-butchering and the way they nickel-and-dime you on features. Joined AT&T and got the 8525. I LOVE it. The $175 ETF was the best money I ever spent.
Not only is the 8525 for Verizon way over a year late, but you just know it's going to be crippled with Verizon's typical crapware. Suck it Verizon! Love ya AT&T!

I have been waiting for this device since it was announced in December of last year. I just ran to the ATT store and purchased a Tilt. I am tired of waiting even a few weeks. I just couldn't get excited about buying a device that is a generation behind. If the network is bad I will return it. If not I am porting my number and am gone.

The official story for the delay on windows mobile six devices is that there have been many issues with getting goodlink and wirelesssync working with the operating system. That probably isn't a good enough reason to delay it for the Engadget crowd, but with the business user department those are mission critical features. Why it is different on different devices, I am not sure, but if you search for delays you will find them across the board for windows mobile 6 devices and if you search for windows mobile 6 delays and goodlink you will find those as well.

AT&T decided to release the 8525 with Windows Mobile 5 on it rather than Windows Mobile 6 for these same issues. Anyone care to complain that it has been 6 months without the promised Windows Mobile 6 update for that phone? How about waiting for the Firmware update to make the Mogul Rev A capable? Six months waiting for that one too. How about the fact that AT&T was a month behind Verizon Wireless in getting their first Windows Mobile 6 device out (The tilt is very nice though).

I agree with you people. Somewhat. I have Verizon now and have had it for some time. I have never dropped a call, but they really could get some new ideas on their phone models. I've been waiting for this phone for forever hoping that it will make up for Verizon's flaws. It's now November 3rd, and I don't know how much longer I can wait for it. Point Blank Network is good, phones suck, so hopefully this will account for everything else, with it having Windows 6.0 and everything. One can only pray...

I was in a Verizon store yesterday and a sales rep told me Nov 28th online and December 5th in stores.
Today I was at a Circuit City and the rep at the Verizon kiosk looked up the sku and told me that the are in stock but he couldn't give me a date.
We'll see.

Does anyone have this phone and also using Slingbox mobile? With this phone and any streaming site (MLB audio or Slingbox) I get booted off the network every 90 secs. What's with that? V says I have no restrictions on my acct, but they don't have any support for third party apps. Network? Phone problem? Software issue?
