This summer, we all got our hopes up when Samsung's (apparently 3G-enabled) SGH-T639 found its way
into the FCC, and now that the handset is reportedly on sale in New York City, it'd be a great time to work yourself into a tizzy once more. According to
PhoneScoop, the 3G-capable T369 is indeed "the first phone to be compatible with T-Mobile's 3G network, even though the network is not yet up and running." Oddly enough, Samsung managed to
conceal this dirty little secret just yesterday, but now that the truth is out there, all that's left to do is hope that this release means that T-Mobile's 3G launch is coming
sooner rather than
later.

Typo "3G-capable T369 is indeed"
I'm reading conflicting reports that this phone does/ doesnt have 3G...anyone in NYC care to confirm?

The phone has a sticker on the side that shows: "Powered by Qualcomm". Its a 3G phone, but isn't picking up the 3G signal since T-Mobile has not turned 3G on yet for the towers to broadcast in the 1700MHz band.

We will not be turning on the 3g in those launch markets until the FCC gives us the all clear on our purchased spectrum. Over 8000 of our Towers have been upgraded for 3g, but the 1700mhz band has yet to be cleared by the government for our use.

Tmoguy: do you guys know if the HTC Kaiser supports your AWS 1700, or it needs a firmware upgrade? Having a working 3G would loose a lot of at&t folks into your fold.

With the 7.2 Mbps 3G launch supposedly around the corner, T-Mo doesn't seem so bad anymore. Now we just need a Touch Slide on the 1700MHz band.

I feel bad for TMo. Its not that they can't compete with their own 3G, its just the stupid government taking forever to clear the spectrum they purchased a while ago.
