iPhone firmware 1.1.1 released, WiFi Music Store included
What goodies does Apple have in store for us this time around? Quite a few, we'd say! Follow the break for more!
[Thanks, JS]
Update: We deleted installer.app on ours and kicked off the update, things are taking a while but no obvious problems yet. Stay tuned.
Update 2: Success! The phone's restarting now.
Update 3: WiFi Music Store, check. New calculator icon to match the iPod touch, check. Phone had to be reactivated.
Update 4: We're hearing numerous reports of "Incorrect SIM" errors on unlocked iPhones after the update -- user beware!

It'll be interesting to see how well this plays with "hacked" iPhones.

Way to be there Captain Obvious

Hehe, I was mainly just posting something so I could update the password Firefox has stored for EngadgetMobile since I changed the default. It wasn't meant to be insightful in any fashion.
My comment may have already been implied by this topic even being posted on Engadget, but you going and flaming me adds nothing to the discussion.

Curious how this will play with iphoneringtonemaker software

It will be interesting to see how curious the next moron commenter will be about something that is so blatantly obvious.

Now all Apple has to do is update the dang firmware for the Classic so Cover Flow works smoothly and fix iTunes so it doesn't hang.

It's interesting to see how few people follow the "if you don't have anything nice to say..." mantra.

They're the one's who relocked their iPhones.

Wow, some people seem to be in a bad mood today.....
Anyways, who else is thrilled about the increased speakerphone volume. I could care less about the mobile I-Tunes but the speakerphone has been my biggest complaint since day one.
ryan @ Sep 27th 2007 3:13PM
I had heard the volume was fixed with this on speakerphone and earpiece. I can't wait to try it out.

Small icon for bluetooth headset battery status now displays in top right hand corner when connected...cute.

You don't even have to have an unlocked iPhone to get the invalid SIM message. I am an AT&T customer that signed up for the 2 year iPhone contract less than two weeks ago and this morning the update broke the phone in my iPhone now I just have an "i" with no phone. I am going to the Apple store tomorrow hopefully they can help.

Still no A2DP over Bluetooth stereo headsets?
Apple.. WTF man?

The simple fact that the update broke some "legitimate" (AT&T activated) iPhones is proof that Apple attempted to break the unlock on purpose. I can see no other explanation. I'm sure taking apart the new firmware file would give a lot of insight on the true bearing of the shiny Apple logo.
Plus, The community could just get those fixes in some simple app in installer...
I'm no coder, but how hard would it be to do that?
We've seen programs that disable the auto correct feature, why not an app that fixes the ear piece sound or disables EDGE?
Or the double-click shortcut, would that be impossible?
And for the Apple store? I'm not giving them 1 more cent from my money anyway, so why would I need it?
Some developers have done a better job than Apple developing gizmos for this phone. I think I can survive without updating my firmware.

apple update.... I see no difference in the speakerphone volume...cant see where you can set volume on alerts...cant rearrange stock market icons....mail does not flip to landscape mode......
and itunes store only has songs...no music videos, no movies, shows, podcast...etc
anyone else find these same problems?

Why does everybody have to hate on the iPhone! I LOVE IT!
You guys that hate are all idiots!

Updated a fairly new iPhone (two-three weeks old) with no hacks or any software updates. My stock headset won't work. Won't play any music or phone calls. Have to disconnect it to hear anything.
