New Samsung Windows Mobile device to feature mouse pointer?

No, no, we're not just here to show off the typical blurry spy shot, this is much meatier than that, this handset -- if you believe the video, and we kinda do -- shows the user scrolling about that Samsung's interface with a pointer. Embedded in the somewhat Blackjack-esque looking device's d-pad is what seems to be a scroll wheel a-la BlackBerry Pearl. Windows Mobile devices could be so much nicer to use if this is legit and is done right. The source has no info on model number or pricing, but there's a lovely vid you can hit after the break that'll at least make you smile a bit. Go Samsung!

1. Whoa ... Nice memory ...
2. Holy crap, that's slower than 3 clicks on a d-pad ...
2. Sprint?
DrNeuralgia @ Sep 20th 2007 11:54PM
pretty uncomfortable
the idea is to develop something EASIER to replace a CLICK and that can be used as a pointing method... not to use something that makes navigating slower as the video CLEARLY demonstrates.
on the other side... looking forward to see what samsung has after the hit the Blackjack (SGH-i607)was... maybe wi-fi worldwide, not only on the SGH-i600 (Blackjack European version)
PS: I hope MS learned a bit from HTC's TouchFlo on the Todat screen and will use it on the whole OS on future versions.

samsung had two on display at Gitex. Either the drivers weren't done, or users will be VERY frustrated with this input mechanism. Way worse than the Pearl trackball

If it's a Verizon phone, it could be available as early as 22 months from now!

So what is new about this? My HTC P3300 has been doing this for a year.

I gotta post a me-too on this one... This touchpad thing is unintuitive and cumbersome. Get rid of it, Sammy!

Why the hell would you need a mouse pointer on a touch sensitive display?
OH THE REDUNDANCY!

I would welcome something like this. I don't mind using the stylus, but it's a two-handed endeavor on WinMo phones. As the guy in the video clearly demonstrates, using big fat thumbs to try and press the "X" button one-handed is not an effective solution.
The mouse pointer/trackball gives the user an effective (hopefully) one-handed browsing solution while still keeping the touchscreen interface intact. Easy input for one- or two-handed operations.

i sampled a web browser for my treo 700p called universe with this feature. it was cool at first but the wow factor wears off fast when your trying select an item on the right side of the screen but have to wait till the virtual mouse moves from the left.
