Motorola looking to decrease spending, cuts R&D funding
With news of cost cutting tactics traveling down hill, we assume that consecutive quarterly losses and other negative news have caused Motorola, the third largest handset manufacturer in the world, to start trimming the proverbial fat off its business. Moto has announced that it will start by cutting 15 percent of costs from its research and development sector by the end of 2007. Is reinventing the same phone only by adding different colors not the proper business model anymore?[Via mocoNews]

"Is reinventing the same phone only by adding different colors not the proper business model anymore?"
xDDDDDD
To quit this recoloring process would be somewhat premature. I need some closure. Release the RAZR SPKTRM--a rainbow colored RAZR--or the much antipated RAZR CHRMELN--charmeleon, a RAZR that changes its color dependent on the lights in its environment. And, of course, dress it up in Moto typical VGA camera and 65K QVGA screen....and push it back into 2004 where it belongs!

Dude, seriously, they call the phones they've been releasing the product of R&D? I thought it was more like:
Secretary- *Has RAZR on desk while painting nails*
CEO- *yells* Get back to work!
Secretary- *accidentally spills nail polish on RAZR*
CEO- *walks to secretary's desk* Ahh, I think you're on to something!

Dude, seriously, if you want to increase profits, this is definitely NOT the sector whose budget you want to cut...just get people who are good at their jobs and not ones who scan previous designs, recolor them, and resubmit the same work in different colors...yeah, Adobe Photoshop can be a bitch to profits.

"Dude, seriously, if you want to increase profits, this is definitely NOT the sector whose budget you want to cut..."
That's exactly where Moto needs to spend MORE money.

^^^I know. What R&D? I mean that is the LAST place Motorola needs a budget cut. Then again it probably wasn't a big cut. I mean 15% of $200 is only $30.

These are all based on the Original V3 RAZR
Wide Flip (RAZR): V3 - V3i - V3x - MAXX V6 - V3xx - V8 - V9
Narrow Flip (KRZR): K1 - K3
Candybar (SLVR): L7 - L7e - L9
Slider (RIZR): Z3 - Z6 - Z8 - Z10
The only line that's interesting me at the moment is the ROKR line for the E6 and the upcoming E7 and E8. Also a 3G A1200
