LG's KU990 "Viewty" reviewed, loved

CNET UK's Andrew Lim had a bit of one on one time with LG's sexiest -- yeah, you know we're talking about the KU990 -- and rolled those thoughts into a fairly positive 4-page writeup. The 5 megapixel camera gets top marks -- compares well with Nokia N95, for example -- with a bevy of adjustable settings such as ISO, white balance, image quality, and so on. The high speed video recording can capture at 120 framer per second allows for fun slow motion effects and upload and download of said vids directly from Youtube. The Viewty (we're really having a tough time warming up to that name) also packs other goodies such as a slideshow viewer that shows the "flickable" images scattered on your screen and a web browser that supports full web page viewing a-la Microsoft DeepFish. Seems LG deserves a big sparkly unicorn sticker for this one, as long as the touch screen's quality overhauls its older sibling, the Prada, we're about sold.

Now When can i get my Tech savvy... hands on this Viewtiness?
ZSX @ Sep 14th 2007 12:44PM
"An interesting but not highly advertised feature is support for DivX playback, which as enthusiasts will know, means you can store films on a microSD card and watch them on the KU990's screen."
Now THAT is something to cheer about!

....you beat me to it.
Can anyone confirm this though?
Kunikos @ Sep 15th 2007 3:10PM
YMMV I bet, I mean DivX Ultra certified home DVD players can't play DivX/Xvid files that have motion compensation algorithms in them (such as GMC).

Very cool, now where's Verizon on this one? Probably makeing money angels at the bank instead of paying attetion to their customers.
Zach @ Sep 14th 2007 3:13PM
Verizon just went... oh look at that, another feature packed GSM phone with shitty call quality. Pass.
Darkest Daze @ Sep 14th 2007 4:04PM
They saw how many features this phone had and thought that we would get too much use out of it, so they decided to pick-up the new env instead. Plus, they didn't see any features they could disable and sell back to us for a monthly fee.

CNET states Quadband GSM + HSDPA means it can imported to be used here in the states. I'm assuming AT&T's HSDPA not TMobile's 1700mhz HSDPA
Kunikos @ Sep 15th 2007 3:10PM
Unless the HSPDA is tri-band in *addition* to quad-band GSM, I doubt it. HSPDA in Europe is on a different frequency range than carriers in the US.

So finally a phone i want that rivals the iPhone in the only catagory i care about (full web page viewing) and it has the same problem that the iPhone has.
If i want it i have to leave Sprint and go to AT&T
Waiting patiently for a phone with
1. Full web page viewing
2. 3G
3. 8+GBs of storage
4. Long battery life
alexcoxy @ Dec 16th 2007 9:33AM
Oh my word! you seriously havent researched it enough! This phone has long battery life (and personally, as long as you sleep in your bed at night, here is sure to be a charger near-by!), micro SD (so the memory can go big if you pay enough), full web-page viewing (plus you can download opera mini 4 for that) and HSDPA qith video calling! This phone is just the best there is, and beats that stupid iPhone dead!
Email me if you agree or disagree. Oh, and can any1 else who has this phone please email me as well....I have some questions. (alexcoxy@yahoo.com)

Montusama @ Sep 18th 2007 4:34PM
looks nice will it be on verizon's network?
Bill @ Oct 24th 2007 3:24PM
This looks similar in a lot of ways to the VX10000/Voyager coming in November on Verizon. There are some big hardware differences but I wonder if the software and touch screen are the same? Might give some insight as to the quality of the browser on the Voyager.

does this phone have gprs or not? i have read both yes and no on different web pages.
also, can you use micro sdhc cards in this phone (which is micro sd compatible) ?
many thanks.

I've had a quick go on this at one of the shops, I love it. Nice feature that not many phones have (if any) is that it gives a quick light vibration when you press the screen. Nifty trick. Geting mine very soon.
Revolution @ Nov 14th 2007 12:28PM
The KU990 does have GPRS (Class 10) in addition to HSDPA.

The LG viewty is an iPhone killer guys. It just is! And, if you're like me, you still want that iPhone interface right? So do what i did. Get an LG viewty (the best phone-ever) and then buy an iPod touch! The touch can act as a PDA and a didgital multimedia player so that your phone can be used to the best of it'a abilities!
Russ @ Dec 22nd 2007 10:35PM
Am I the only one having service problems with the KU990 Viewty? AT&T is my service provider, but the phone is always dropping the signal. No one at AT&T can assist because they don't carry this particular model. I like the phone, but if I can't make calls, it's not serving its purpose. Any assistance will be appreciated.

how many sms can it store? received, sent, draft etc.
also, is there any option to choose to store sms on either the phone or memory card??
