LG VX8350 gets official on Verizon
Since we caught wind of the VX8800 and VX10000 superphones coming down Verizon's pike, pretty much anything that starts with "VX" has been getting our hearts racing -- but relax, there's really not much to the VX8350 that would warrant such a reaction. Not to say it's a slouch, either: EV-DO, stereo Bluetooth, microSD expansion, dual color displays with external music controls, and a 1.3 megapixel cam all collaborate to make this sucker a worthy successor to the VX8300 it replaces. Grab it now for a shade under $80 on contract after rebates.

This does NOT deserve the LG VX8350 name. The LG VX8XXX series has always been lustworthy in appearance. This looks like an entry level phone. And it's features really could've been brought into 2007 along with its design.

Thumbs down LG and VZW....
....although you all will completely change that with the VX 8800 & VX10K...
.....whenever they're released.

lustworthy in appearance??? the 8000 was a tank, the 8300 the same. neither were very attractive phones, they just start to grow on you because it's a good phone. hopefully this one lives up to the 8300.

Hey, it's just my opinion that they're good looking. I've actually never played with them, but, at the time they were released, with the external mp3 buttons and those color screens, to me, they were--and still are--nice looking phones. AT&T/Cingular wasn't offering anything that attractive, imho.

Also, I don't think a phone--or people, for that matter--has to be thin to be attractive. I do own a Samsung a717 but I also own a Nokia n80, both of which are good lookin', to me. The appearance of this phone is looking kinda entry level.

I've had my 8300 a little over a year and have loved many things about it, but it is somewhat chunky and heavy compared to other flip models, so I have just ordered the 8350 to replace it. However, this phone is probably what the 8300 should have been in the first place.

This looks a hell of a lot more attractive than the veteran LG-VX8300. No external antenna and much less bulky. Doesn't look any more "entry level" than the 8300 did.

Wait...
Why does that external photo look exactly like the one on my Cingy SYNC?

I just got the VX8350 yesterday on a contract extension since my LG Chocolate broke again. I am already thinking about trying something else. The # key doesn't have the key lock shortcut on it like every other LG phone out there. You can go into the menu and access the phone lock thru the security menu, but that is a pain when you have to do it after every phone call you make. This is big for me since every phone I have had always seems to dial out or something while in my pocket or holster at work. Another thing I don't like about it is the camera on the VX8350 is horrible. Both the Chocolate and the VX8350 are 1.3 and there is a huge difference not only in quality but you get more area covered with the Chocolate. You can see the comparison here http://www.flickr.com/photos/13641808@N04/sets/72157602033317024/ . Also the camera placement on the vx8350 tends to see my finger in the photo since it's in the middle of the clam. To be fair I have issues with the chocolate as well. When you slide the phone shut it locks out the keys, but if a key gets pressed twice it unlocks it. Which seems to happen in my pocket or holster so you have to press the # key. Of course the # key doesn't prevent the volume keys from muting your phone on either the VX8500 or VX8350. I also don't like how the chocolate's touch sensitive keys activate something else while I am trying to do another thing. I did find out that having a Chocolate phone on you when you get hit by the lawn sprinkler can activate the water damage sticker inside the phone and somehow make the earpiece no longer work.

Update:
I returned the VX8350 today and went back to my broken Chocolate. I found out from a Verizon store person that Verizon has removed the phone lock function on all new phones because people were changing their passwords from the default last 4 digits of phone number to something else and forgetting the password. Instead of removing the function completely, they should of went back to the standard key lock of pressing * then menu or something at least. Oh well, I hope they change it before my contract ends in a year... maybe the Iphone will be worth changing to AT&T by then.

If you don't want to stick with your old chocolate do yourself a favor and get the new one, the LG-VX8550

don't buy this phone if you want to sync your outlook contacts or calendar. there is not a software available for this purpose for this phone. this is less important to me but it also does not have a flash or radio.

If you live in a good coverage area this phone will probably not give you too many problems. If you live in a fringe area or work in one like I do, you have to turn it off or it will run the battery down in just a few hours. I talked to verizon about this and found out there is no way to get the phone to go to "stand-by" to save battery power. Either turn it off, or plug it in to a charger is what I was told. Heck, if I wanted a phone that has to have a cord on it all the time, I will just use a standard land line phone!! Today, I unplugged it at 6:00 am, got to work at 7:30 and turned it off, turned it back on at 10:00 and ran some service calls. At noon I got back to the office and didn't turn it off, at 4:30 pm it was almost totally dead and I had to use the car charger on the way home! I had my first one replaced because I thought it was a bad phone, now I know it's just junk.
