Motorola Q Global makes surprise, unorderable cameo on AT&T site
Call it the q9, the Q9h, the Q9 global, whatever, but AT&T's apparently going by the "Q Global" moniker (properly capitalized, no less!) for Motorola's latest QWERTY smartphone when it goes on sale shortly. The carrier has thrown up a teaser site to help hold over the throngs of impatient masses who hoped the darned thing would've launched by now -- particular considering it was announced long before Verizon's version -- though no mention of an actual launch date is made in the verbiage. With any luck the October rumor will stick, but for now, a submission of your email address into some AT&T database will have to do.

I don't see why they can't release the phone sooner rather than later. It was cleared on 8/27 by the FCC (missed here in the FCC Friday's section). So why does it take 1-3 months past the FCC approval to ship?

That's the biggest problem with AT&T. They take forever to launch the damn phones. No other carrier has that problem. Same with the Eten X800 and the 8925. They're Windows Mobile phones. They can't say it's because of training because they all share the same basic OS. Verizon even slapped on an extra UI which their CSR had to be trained to use and shipped the q9m faster. If it wasn't for the price drop that comes with an upgrade I would have gotten an unlocked version of the x800 by now.

VZW didn't slap on a "UI", they simply added a second "home" screen option.
ShortFuse @ Sep 12th 2007 10:38PM
Obviously you've never used the phone or don't know what a UI is. They did added a full menu system which AT&T isn't doing with any of their Windows Moible phones. Here's a link to a few pics of the UI: http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/MotoQ9mHandsOn/
They created their own music player, video player, and VCast UI (to name a few). Other buttons link to integrated WM6 applications. That's my point. They did all this and released the phone faster than AT&T (who wasn't going to do much to change the feel of WM6).

No other carrier?!? You're obviously not waiting for the i760 on VZW.

BlackBerry 8800 series, cough, cough.

I was told 9/21 for announcement of the Q Global and 9/25 for it to be in the stores. Now its another week later. Also on the price sheet Boy Genius Report had up last week or so it showed the Q9 Global with a $50 rebate valid until 9/15, so they not only missed that date but they also screwed the pooch on the name. This will of course break all of the good old search engine links in the forums. Thanks AT&T way to screw over your future customers.

Hello, do you like my small screen?
Nick @ Sep 12th 2007 6:54PM
I like the fact that the shot of the phone shows the Opera Mini browser and not IE for WM6. Also, the press release says support for up to 32GB microSD cards. DAMN SON! That will be some $$$$ when the come out I bet. Now should my girlfriend hold out for this phone, or go with the BlackJack (she won't switch over to BB with me :( )
MannyM @ Sep 12th 2007 7:23PM
Yeah AT&T how bout you take down that waiting list and provide a WM6 update for the Blackjack?
Motorola smartphone is an oxymoron.

This phone is pretty awesome i have verizon version and its a great phone i would suggest anyone to get it. This phone mark a change for motorola. I just dont like all the soft keys that this one have. The home button, email, back, soft keys and call and end keys. They all bunch up together that might cause a problem of hitting the wrong keys. They should have done away with the att logo button and switch the calender button at the bottom with the mail button. Other than that its a great phone.

Not being able to wait for the sluggish AT&T, I bought the European Moto Q9h off eBay several month and I haven't been disappointed in the least!. I LOVE THIS PHONE! While I do wish I had that integrated GPS that the Global will have, the q9h will more than do the job. Perhaps I can get it with a ROM update? Anyway, Moto did a great job with this line! My iPhone-owning fiancee is jealous of ME! LOL.

The reason why it took AT&T so long to launch this phone is that embedded GPS was added. I actually own a pre-release version of the phone that used to have the Cingular branding on it. That tells you how long the phone has been "ready." Verizon got the version without embedded GPS but AT&T wanted to have a key differentiator or the phone would just have been another Smartphone. While WiFi is still missing, embedded GPS (allowing for location based applications/services) is very cool.

Visiting Princeton (NJ) and saw this in Best Buy yesterday. The rep there said I can take it home today.
