AT&T logo going orange
Sheesh, as if the whole Cingular / AT&T / BellSouth / etc. mishmash hasn't been confusing enough for the general populace, here comes yet another change sure to make folks scratch their noggins a bit more. As AT&T looks to launch a new ad campaign that gloats about "Your Seamless World," the carrier will reportedly paint the blue and white globe orange as a "respectful nod to Cingular." Meanwhile, sign changers are thrilled about all the business pouring in from AT&T recently...[Via PhoneScoop]

silly AT&T ..
Overall I don't think it is a bad idea but they would have probably been better off doing it when Cingular became AT&T again to begin with.
iPhoneResidentObssesive @ Sep 11th 2007 9:29PM
well, att's market execs cant get dumber now...
unless they rebrand the iphone as the GlobePhone
coldconfession13 @ Sep 11th 2007 9:36PM
info is wrong they are going to use orange for AT&T mobility and use blue for the rest of AT&T operations. Phonescoop has wrong info they aren't changing the color of the letters rather just orange background.

So let me see if I have this straight...
In 2004, Cingular (Logo Orange) buys AT&T Wireless (logo blue) but fails to secure the AT&T Wireless Name (changes all signage to Cingular)
Then, SBC (1 of Cingular's 2 parent companies) buys AT&T (mainly for the name, changing all SBC signage to AT&T with blue logo)
SBC then buys Bell South (Cingular's other parent company) so it can gain full control of Cingular and rename the new At&t (Changes all cingular signage back to AT&T with blue logo)
AT&T (still not happy) decides it doesn't like blue logo, changes all signage to orange logo.
dang...think about how many towers they could have built and/or how much of their network could be hsupa by now if it wasn't for all this nonsense. Meanwhile Sprint and Verizon cover well over 200 million people with their REV A networks...

Oh you've got to be fucking with me. Can AT&T not go a year without messing with something? Good thing I'm not in a relationship or anything with her. She sounds a bit like of a control freak.
mongoos150 @ Sep 11th 2007 10:03PM
Ridiculous. Make up your friggen minds.
Mike @ Sep 11th 2007 10:20PM
Actually, USA Today reported that the company colour would be orange, but the white and blue sphere would remain...white and blue.
Lach @ Sep 11th 2007 10:24PM
This is awesome, I went from ATT to Cingular back to ATT and now to ATT Orange. No matter what the carrier logo sticker on my phone's going to look OLD!
Big John @ Sep 11th 2007 10:40PM
Talk about confusion. Why not change your logo on a quarterly -- hell, monthly -- basis? All the money into redoing the signage could be better used for... well, ANYTHING! Not mention the marketing schemes that have to come out... "Cingular, now the new AT&T (show blue sphere) now the newer AT&T (fade blue to orange).
If Mike is right (USA Today source plz), that's just another dumb move on their part.
Philip S @ Sep 11th 2007 11:44PM
This is ridiculous. I too came to Cingular from AT&T Wireless and then back to AT&T because of all this nonsense. Still have a couple of old AT&T Wireless branded Nokia phones (not in use anymore).
Brian @ Sep 12th 2007 12:44AM
oh snap! they're changing the color of their logo! that's TOTALLY going to make me give them all my money in exchange for a hipster phone, crappy service, and a bunch of dead trees inscribed with useless gibberish.
mike @ Sep 12th 2007 1:23AM
I was suprised when I saw an internal product info sheet that had an orange/white globe on the phones screen. I thought it was just a mistake on the manufacturer and/or marketing part, but I guess not...
I see another round of commission cuts and budget crunches coming very soon if all the signs are changed again....
Make up your mind and lets get it together. mmmm, k?

Guys, chill out. I work for AT&T & have seen the ads. They AREN'T changing the logo, that would be ridiculous. The whole reason they changed from Cingular to AT&T was for world recognition. I agree that the whole AT&T to Cingular to AT&T again thing was costly & confusing, but all they are doing in the commercials is putting their normal BLUE logo on top of an orange background in the last scene of the commercial. If Engadget hadn't said anything, nobody would have thought anything of it. And actually, the commercials are some of the best AT&T has done.
beanspants @ Sep 12th 2007 11:30AM
i've seen them too marty, and no they aren't the best of anything. there's some moron standing in a pond, then they're are some high falutin' travel douchebags harping about how great their phones work in candalbosistan. they are crap, and they will be pulled shortly for something better.
Jeremy @ Sep 12th 2007 12:33PM
I had always thought they should have kept the little cingular guy but changed his head to the ATT logo.
R1cebrner @ Sep 12th 2007 12:34PM
I knew i changed careers too soon. I put up all of the cingular signs when it converted from cellular one, and the at&t to cingular signs in my area. I better start my own company and make freinds with marketing of at&t.
Jarrett Kaufman @ Sep 12th 2007 12:34PM
This is ridiculous. And orange has always been a hideous color for a logo. It's harsh and garish and has no place being on the front of my phone. I'm shocked Sprint managed to pull off the yellow with their new logo, but even that looks better than orange. The blue AT&T logo is sexy, but in orange it'll look awful.
AJ @ Sep 19th 2007 1:44PM
Speaking as a legacy wireless employee, I think we should have kept "Jack", and put the AT&T globe on his back, like Atlas. Because Wireless is the honestly the strongest division in the stinkin company!
