Apple iPhone hits the one million mark

It took a bit longer than a some analysts were expecting, but Apple announced today that it has finally broke the one million iPhone sales barrier, 74 days after the iPhone hit the scene on June 29th and right on target for Apple's own projections. "One million iPhones in 74 days -- it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod," said Steve Jobs. But of course, it's never enough: "We can't wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season." Only time will tell if those aggressive price cuts and international sales can help the iPhone hit the 10 million mark in 2008.

You've got quite a wait, bub. About six months. I doubt if even the European iPhones are going to be 3G. I would say that the Asian iPhones will be 3G because they not stupid enough to go back to 2G phones when most people are already using 3G.

Does this mean they actually sold 1 million iPhones or does it mean 1 million iPhones have been registered, because we know how many replacements they have out there now.

you know, if you pro-rate the 1 million mark at 74 days into 1 year, Apple looks to sell only around 5 million phones.

And you know they won't fly off the shelves faster than at launch, so Apple may be a bit worried unless they can pull off their launches in Europe on time to get those numbers up.
