Amazon gets impatient, offers Pantech C810 for AT&T
You know, if it weren't for retailers and the FCC, manufacturers' and carriers' employees would lead relatively stress- and hypertension-free lives -- but in this heavily embargoed, NDA'd, confidentiality agreemented world in which we live, bean spillage is an inevitable occurrence. We're not saying that's what's going on here, but we find it odd that Amazon would start offering Pantech's C810 dual slider Windows Mobile smartphone for AT&T with nary a peep from the carrier itself (not that we're complaining in the least). Even better, they're offering it for a cool $180 which seems really reasonable for a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device with UMTS in such a creative and useful form factor. Give us a holler in comments if anyone grabs it!

That's an ugly phone
ShortFuse @ Sep 8th 2007 4:04PM
Too bad no touchscreen but that's why it's a great price. 3G, very nice.
Yubastard @ Sep 8th 2007 5:08PM
that is very, very good news!! I want one!
on the other hand, no shipping to Puerto Nico leaves me with no other choice than to wait for AT&T...
Nick @ Sep 8th 2007 5:59PM
I went though the buying process on Amazon, and it may just be this way on their site, but there was no "PDA" data option. AT&T offers and unlimted data plan with 1500 sms for I think $39.99 and that, along with all other smart phone data options was not there. I did not buy the phone.
cowabungaCarl @ Sep 8th 2007 6:24PM
this phone doesnt show up on amazon when i try to find it,...maybe its not available in my area?
TJ @ Sep 8th 2007 6:29PM
I don't see how the specs can be accurate given the form factor of the phone. If it does not have a touch screen, then one would have to open up the slider, hit the function button just to type in the phone number. Something isn't right here. At least with the Libra or HTC 720, there are numbers on the front to make up for the lack of a touch screen. If these specs are accurate, then nobody is going to buy this. Or when they do, they will return it very shortly.
Chris Kz @ Sep 8th 2007 6:37PM
TJ,
I'm sorry, what am I missing. What's wrong with the specs? I take it you've never used or seen a slider phone before. My wife has a Samsung D807. To place a call, slide it open and start typing. There is no function button to hit. What's so hard about that? There are plenty of sliders out there now so adding one that also has qwerty is nice. I think the specs look great. Believe it or not there is a very large segment of the smartphone population that doesn't want a touch screen. The Dash, Blacjack, Q, 3125 all are starndard MS smarthphones and sell every well. This phone is smaller than my old SMT 5600 w/ qwerty. The only thing I'd be worried about is battery life. 3G killed the battery in my Blackjack. I'm probably going to get this when its available on AT&T premier and give it a shot.
Chris Ziegler @ Sep 8th 2007 6:40PM
TJ, the phone's a DUAL slider - there's a second slide with a dedicated numeric keypad. Follow the link to see more pictures.
Chris
Rich @ Sep 8th 2007 6:38PM
TJ, it's a dual-slide form factor just like the Helio Ocean, so there is a numeric keypad. Look at all of the photos on Amazon and you'll see. Definitely no touch screen.
Besides, who actually dials phone numbers these days? Has no one heard of the contact list feature that all of these newfangled "cell phones" have? I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually dialed a phone number in the last three months.
Chris Kz @ Sep 8th 2007 6:40PM
Oh. I think I know what you're missing now TJ. This phone is a DUAL slider. Slide it like a standard slider to get a normal keypad. Slide it the other way to get qwerty. Maybe you should have actually read about the phone and realized what it was before bashing it.
kashif @ Sep 8th 2007 8:30PM
Yeah TJ, didn't you get the memo?
Dustin @ Sep 8th 2007 8:30PM
Been waiting for this for a while now, it showed up on Amazon a couple of days ago and was linked over at HoFo. The "2-4 Weeks" shipping is new as of today though, before there was nothing under availability.
Looking forward to using my upgrade next month on this most likely
Lalpasha @ Sep 8th 2007 9:03PM
Phone Book Capacity: 100 Entries? Which world are these guys from? Doesn't that give you an idea about how much memory you'd get, if you wanted to load some software of your choice?
david @ Sep 8th 2007 10:04PM
weight: 1.0 pounds.... I hope that's the weight of everything in the box.
Scott @ Sep 8th 2007 11:16PM
Its a Pantech, what do you expect from the worst phone manufacturer that at&t carries?
Goodman @ Sep 8th 2007 11:11PM
I had a Helio Ocean, which is basically the same phone but without Windows Mobile, and I thought it was a pretty sweet piece of hardware. Don't remember hearing any complaints about the hardware. Anyone know what processor this (or the Ocean) has? Helio kept kind of quiet about that, which makes me fear a 200 mhz processor. My Googling has come up empty.
Scott @ Sep 8th 2007 11:19PM
Just from my experience of complaints and returns I see on a daily basis regarding Pantech. Reception tends to be an issue with Pantechs, but who knows this one could be revolutionary.
cwalka @ Sep 9th 2007 9:57AM
where's the tilt?!
Rich @ Sep 9th 2007 12:16PM
I sent the link in - here it is

ozair @ Sep 9th 2007 4:12PM
interesting
TJ @ Sep 9th 2007 5:18PM
Well that's what I get for not checking out the pics first.
The D Train @ Sep 9th 2007 7:56PM
I dont know if you noticed dude but this a quad slider, with universal remote, and 3 blade razor on the top and bottom as well. Did you put the cover on those tps reports?
TJ @ Sep 10th 2007 12:37PM
"well Bob, you see I have eight bosses. Eight. Which means everytime I screw up I have eight different people to tell me about it. Let me tell you a little something about TPS reports."
PS thanks to everyone who was kind enough to just point out what I was missing instead of pouncing on me like Chirs KZ on a queer!
JayCaesar @ Sep 9th 2007 5:22PM
ill take the ocean instead
Robbie @ Sep 9th 2007 7:57PM
maybe they meant to say 1000 entries? hopefully... ? :P i would get it if it had video share.
TJ @ Sep 10th 2007 12:38PM
Ok that was a little insensitive of me. I should not have said queer. Maybe.... small farm animal.. or something along those lines. I apologize to anyone I may have offended.
abmoser @ Sep 10th 2007 6:33PM
Looks like amazon.com pulled it, it's "currently unavailable."
Chris Kz @ Sep 11th 2007 7:53AM
TJ! Wow, I'm shocked that you're taking this personal. I was only trying to point out that you should take the time to understand what the heck your posting about before you rip a product. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. Can I send you some flowers to make you feel better? Tell your mom and dad that me and the Cincinnati Bengals said Hi.
phonewiz @ Sep 12th 2007 7:53AM
I have talked with some ATT store reps. They say Pantech phones have performed great. They don't have a lot of info on this phone yet, but they said the memory and size listed above are not accurate. They said it is very competitive... Expect big things..
Sharper8 @ Sep 13th 2007 1:18AM
Well, what else are you expecting to here from an AT&T store about an AT&T phone? :D
Eldavar @ Sep 17th 2007 7:06AM
Hey it looks like Amazon pulled the listing because I can't find anything about this phone anywhere on the site. The links to the ad now go to Amazon's standard page that says something about a not functioning address... I've been using the Audiovox 5600 for almost 2 years now and I love it, but it's old and starting to glitch too much. I've been considering the HTC S710, and this looks very similar. Any thoughts on how this might compare to the S710?
