Nokia pounces on iPhone price drop with Google ads
One of the few hundred thousand that dropped 600 bones for an 8GB iPhone instead of the moderately more palatable $399? It's alright, Nokia still hearts you, and they want to prove it. Espoo wasted no time after yesterday's announcement in taking out Google ads encouraging disheartened, empty-walleted iPhone owners to check out its new MOSH service -- a collaborative mobile media site run by the phone giant -- to "salvage" their devices. With all due respect, Nokia, no amount of free content is going to put $200 back into our pockets, but we appreciate the thought nonetheless.

Fair play ? Seems that Nokia is in full panic mode now.

So Apple gives everyone the shaft, yet Nokia's the bad guy?
Long live Steve Jobs, 50% profit margins, and marginally improved iPod models year after year with the same price point!

although it's a *great* phone, that $700 price tag on the N95 is starting to seem pretty ridiculous right now. i wonder what it will drop to. (and yes i know it has lots of features the iphone doesn't. but still.)

According to JP Morgan the manufacturing cost for N95 is about
220-260, while Jobs pays 200$ for 8GB iPhone. Nokia has plenty of room as well to drop the price if they want to.

How much is that in US dollars? Also, is it the same for the US version? They did have to adhere to our frequencies; wouldn't it cost more if they weren't producing as many as the European ones?
willie @ Sep 6th 2007 6:07PM
Yeah but first they have to offer it through a carrier if they ever want market share.

I could imagine Nokia being just ever so slightly annoyed at Steve-o dropping the price. Makes a nice $700+ N95 just a little harder to swallow...
