We don't have a DMCA here in Europe, so if/when customers start unlocking their iPhones there's nothing European carriers can do.
b) The $599 has not been proven to be a consumer-acceptable price. Good sales in July does not a trend make. As a matter of fact, Apple lowering the price so much so soon suggests that sales in August were abysmal.
c) The problem is not just cost of components; 3G drains much more power than 2.5G.
d) "More information about the European iPhone" doesn't necessarily means a different iPhone. It might just means carriers and pricing information. I don't see the point of making the iPhone quadri-band if they were going to make a different model for Europe anyway.
