Where the hell is the 3G iPhone for Europe? We might know.
The only thing more slippery than an iPhoneSIMFree release date has to be the magically, mystical 3G iPhone rumored for Europe. At least with the latter, Apple has been kind enough to drop a few dreggy hints. Add 'em all up and Apple Expo -- kicking off September 25th -- seems to be the prime time for Apple to announce a new flagship 16GB, 3G iPhone. Don't believe it? Check this:- Berlin's IFA show is over with nay a peep from Apple or from the major European carriers about a European iPhone, even though the deals seem pretty well sewn-up.
- Apple's current top-o-the-line 8GB iPhone just received a remarkable $200 drop in price. That opens the door for another iPhone priced at what's been proven to be a consumer-acceptable, $599 price point.
- That $200 easily buys Apple a total of 16GB of NAND flash (about $70 for the extra 8GB) like that found in their new iPod touch as well as a tri-band HSDPA radio with plenty of profit left over.
- Apple told us during the Q3 fiscal call that more information about the European iPhone would be made available at the end of their current -- big product transition -- fiscal quarter which ends September 30th.
- Apple Expo has seen the launch of the redesigned iMac G5 and other Apple products in the past.

will the Euro 3G model work on other SIM carriers in the US, like Tmobile?
ikkoku @ Sep 5th 2007 8:03PM
Hope they do a triband 3G
Nick Reuter @ Sep 6th 2007 12:29AM
i want to know if it will support a2dp
Kunikos @ Sep 6th 2007 12:26PM
Yes, 3G and stereo Bluetooth seem to be the two biggest glaring omissions other than GPS.
I'm waiting for US iPhone with all three.

I hope if there is a 3G it works here in the United States. I'm getting tempted reallllly bad to buy the iPhone right now. Gotta love that $200 price drop.

It's unlikely the Euro 3G model will work in the USA, as the European carriers use the 900/1800/2100mHz triband (same as here in Australia, fortunately), whereas the US carriers are 850mHz (Same as the Telstra NextG network here in Australia)...
So either way the 3G iPhone will work in Australia! Disadvatage of an 850mHz iteration would be that Telstra are an evil corporation.

Not to be picky but lowercase m in SI units is milli- not mega-. You are saying millihertz instead of megahertz when you say mHz instead of MHz. ;)

That's a very good point.
Shame i can't correct my comments

Counter-points to each of your bulletted points:
a) I'm pretty sure the deals became un-sewn the moment iPhoneSimFree announced their software unlock. We don't have a DMCA here in Europe, so if/when customers start unlocking their iPhones there's nothing European carriers can do.
b) The $599 has not been proven to be a consumer-acceptable price. Good sales in July does not a trend make. As a matter of fact, Apple lowering the price so much so soon suggests that sales in August were abysmal.
c) The problem is not just cost of components; 3G drains much more power than 2.5G.
d) "More information about the European iPhone" doesn't necessarily means a different iPhone. It might just means carriers and pricing information. I don't see the point of making the iPhone quadri-band if they were going to make a different model for Europe anyway.
e) Anything is possible, but it seems weird Apple announcing a new iPhone only a couple of weeks later their highly publicized "The beat goes on" event.

Will the European iphone be provided with (AVRCP)Audio/Video Remote Control Profile or (A2DP)Advanced Audio Distribution Profile for Stereo Bluetooth Headsets.
That will be great, or maybe it will has to be Stereo Bluetooth Headsets provided by Apple again?
Greetings,
Mr M
