Seriously, I was looking at the iPhone for my wife and I back when it came out. It was actually a better deal over the two year contract price when compared to a Blackberry pearl and Treo 750 (ATT) and a Treo 700wx (Verizon). Now that it's gone down in price, it seriously blows those other phones out of the water from a price standpoint. Yes, there are some spec mismatch between the different phones. But these were for my wife and I (not a corporate phone), so price was the biggest factor. Att and Verizon seriously need to lower the price of their data plans for consumers to jump onto the data plan train that Apple is pulling. Too bad for early adoptors, but this phone is going to be EVERYWHERE come Christmas (like the Razor).

Hmmm, an 8GB iphone for 399 or a 16GB ipod touch for $399. The best parts of the iphone are in the new touch so why bother with AT&T and contracts and all that. Most people that will buy a touch already have a phone so might as well go for the more space with everything but a phone. I think this is going to cut into their iphone sales.

What if I don't want to carry two things around? I'm thinking about getting one, because although I could just get the Touch and carry my Razr, I probably won't take the Touch most of the time since I don't strictly need it. But if the music is part of my phone, I'll have to take it and I'll get more use out of it during those times when you wouldn't really bring your MP3 player but you have a few minutes here and there and you'd like to listen to music.

Us early adopters got screwed on this faster than I expected. $200 in 2 months time - wow! What is the world coming to? Yesterday i get a refund from Microsoft for an xbox repair and today apple screws the early adopters. Oh the inhumanity!

I could have swore that somewhere in my iPhone booklet it said that you could apply to be refunded the difference if they lower the price within 30 days of your purchase. So, if that's true, i'm getting $200. Yippie.
Don't quote me on that though.

Well now that they have dropped the price to what i had originally wanted i think i'll bite.
Does anyone know if corporate discounts apply to the service plan? I know they don't discount the hardware.

you have to change to an iphone rate plan and you lose any discounts. there are no fan ban or sub discounts for iphone plans.

The AT&T Corporate Discount DOES NOT apply to anything iPhone. BUT, my costs dropped because the data plan was cheaper that the data plan for my prior phone.

I love that they dropped the price!!! Did you really think it would stay at $599? Get real.... Thats the price you pay as an early adopter... I bought the iPhone a month ago, now im going to get one more!!! The wife can have the cheap-o iPhone, Im keeping the expensive one for myself!

Well now apple reduced the price on the iphones thats one step, now maybe if ATT lowered the plans for an iphone maybe more people would actually buy them.

Most predictions called for a variation of the iPhone (a "nano" version). I doubted this because the iPhone is already the perfect form factor - it can't be improved upon. The only way you could possibly improve upon it is to lower the price. I only hope the 16 gig ipod touch has bookmarks - that would be the end game for such devices. And no monthly fees!!!

To all iPhone customers:
I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.
First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.
Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.
Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.
Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.
We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.

That would be nice i love apple I was the 15 person on the iphone line at the Nyc soho store and now my iphone is already not working i can do everything except make calls it says i have no service so i was forced to put my sim card into another phone because i can not afford to get my phone fixed right now
especially because att charges me 300 dollars a month since i got it for some reason and they always have some way to make sound right
so a 100 dollar credit would be nice but its still a fraction of what i have and im sure what many other people here have spent with apple and att combined
thank you for everything apple i still love you and i still support you i bought two phones that day and im happy for it if one wasnt broken i would be alittle happier but thanks anyways for changing the world again.
